Gas and propane powered stoves and grills are permitted in non-developed areas with a valid California Campfire Permit.
Really?  So, using my little Jetboil would require a permit?  Am I reading that correctly?

I always thought that a campfire permit was for, well, campfires.  No?

I suppose official trail camps like Little Jimmy or Cooper Canyon would constitute a developed area, yes?
