Last Thursday, 20 August 2015, the final step in the current plan for DMR deployments was completed.  The N6GGS DMR repeater on 449.0375- CC1 was installed on Santiago Peak above LA/OC and the Inland Empire.  This is the third DMR repeater deployed by the N6GGS/KA6P team.  Here are the details:

449.0375- CC1   Santiago Peak
449.0375- CC2   Wrightwood
446.0600- CC2   Quartzite Mtn (Victorville)

All three repeaters are "Open" repeaters, available to any licensed amateur with DMR capabilities.

Here is the Talk Group information, which is common across all three repeaters:

Time Slot 1

Local TGID 2
CenCal TGID 236225
SoCal TGID 762225    (This is a PTT TG on Santiago)

Time Slot 2

CA Statewide TGID 3107
CA Statewide 1 TGID 2251 (PTT 5)

English UA 2 TGID 123 (PTT 5)
Parrot TGID 9998 (PTT 5)
Audio Test TGID 9999 (PTT 5)

There are two additional TGs available; "Inland" and "Cactus".  Inland TG is for Wrightwood amateurs, and interconnects the three repeaters. Used for weather, road, and fire conditions.  Cactus TG is for Cactus members.  Please contact Pat, KA6P, or Darrell, N6GGS, for the details.

User equipment continues to come on to the market.  The latest offering from Tytera (TYT) is the perfect inexpensive entry radio. http://www.connectsystems.com/products/top/radios%20MD380.htm  As of today, the MD-380 UHF handheld is available at Connect Systems, Inc. for $165, which includes the programming cable.  Just call them, tell them you are a ham, and that you would like to order an MD-380 UHF DMR handheld.

DMR has been operational in Wrightwood for 13 months now.  It offers worldwide access with just a handheld.  And with a repeater in Victorville and OC/LA/IE, local hams can be just about anywhere in the region, and still have connectivity back to Wrightwood.

Come join the fun.  If you would like a demonstration of DMR, please contact KA6P or N6GGS.

Is the Wrightwood repeater in town or on Frost?
I'm surprised I can't get into it from Torrance.

Bill,

The KA6P Wrightwood Repeater is located at a Residence on the East Side of town.  Coverage is pretty much just the Swarthout Valley in Wrightwood.  A little spills out into the desert through Sheep Creek and I've been able to hit it in some locations just west of Big Pines.  You'll probably be able to hit the G6GGS Repeater on Santiago Peak from Torrance, which along with the G6GGS Quartzite Repeater above Victorville are tied together with the KA6P Repeater in Wrightwood.  I'm told that the Johnstone Peak repeater owned by the "Cactus" HAM club has the same Talkgroup configuration that the KA6P and G6GGS repeaters have.  Of course you'll be able to hit Mt. Lukens very easily from Torrance, as that is the repeater I use when in that part of town, even down into Newport Beach.  In fact the Mt. Lukens repeater works for most of the LA area.  New repeaters have been installed in Santa Monica and a few other places to fill in the gaps.  Almost all parts or Southern California from Santa Barbara to San Diego now have coverage.  If you have any questions let me know.
