Yep, that's a crossbill.  The use their bill like a pair of pliers to open pine cones and get the seeds out.  As they open up the cone, they can stick their tongue in there and grab the seed.  Too kewl!

I've been trying to get a picture of male/female Acorn Woodpeckers side by side and finally got it. The crown coloring is distinctively different between the two.

Great shot, Wrightwood.  In a month or so, expect to see them raising a family in the Woodpecker Condo.

Ok, I don't have a picture but maybe one of you can put one on here once someone can tell me what this bird is.  Today I was walking out to get in my truck and this bird that is a little bigger than a finch landed about 5 feet from me and just sat there and looked at me.  It had black and yellow speckled wings with a yellow breast and light orange face and head.  It was so pretty.  At first I thought it was out of it's realm, that it didn't belong around here.  But just a little while ago I saw a few more out in my back yard.

Yep, that's the one.  Oh my gosh I can't believe you saw it too.  I thought I was seeing things.  Thanks BB
