Flume canyon

Was there ever a flume in flume canyon or is the name just derived from the fact the water coursed down it quickly?

Maybe in it's day it was a flume.    Any mention of the quantity of water back in the history books?   I'm sure with the change in weather patterns there may have been a flume at one time.

This is off topic, but BostonBob, have you ever been to The Flume in New Hampshire?   Exactly 18 years ago today I took the Kancamagus Highway from North Conway on my way to Stowe Vermont and stopped at The Flume and visited the Old Man of the Mountain.    Too bad he fell apart.

Somehow I think it's too steep. The logs would have been processed into toothpicks on the way down. It would have been hard to control the logs with such precipitous drops.
But, then what do I know? (Don't answer that!) Someone may have tried it.
