To the east of Luker's Place was a small gas station. It was later demolished and a new one built down the highway. The original one was owned and operated by Luker, it was later owned and operated by Mike Priestly.
The snowfall of 1940-41 wasn't so bad for Wrightwood, but if left about sixty feet of snow on top of Blue Ridge. The community of Wrightwood would shortly be reminded of the laws of gravity. It was in a hot early May when the heavy snow pack above town began to melt. The sun blazed as the snow melted much too fast and with too much water volume. Water and mud flowed down the slide behind town and covered about two-thirds of Wrightwood! The onslaught of mud was terrible! Like many others in the small valley, it took Ed Luker days to clear a pathway into the cafe through rock and mud.
Luker's Place is now referred to as Mt. Chulas. and after 80 years, it is still serving food. Always had been and perhaps always will...
