What makes an engineer and/or ham radio amateur??

Many years ago a fellow ham said, "You should be able to do that (some design function I cannot remember) because you are an engineer.  I replied, " I would not be an engineer if I was not a ham!"  I learned most of my real microwave design techniques as a ham in the 1950s and 1960s.  I was able to use those techniques as an engineer in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s.  To me hamming and engineering were synonymous.

Alritey then.  As a ham of about 3 months of age, ham speaking, and knowing NOTHING about electronics, at least I'm not terrified to talk on the thing during a power outage or something, but that's about it for me.
