MT. HIGH EAST
« on: Jan 01, 15, 01:04:07 PM »
Let me start by admitting I'm NOT a big fan of Mt. High.

But, have an honest question that deserves an honest answer.
Years ago we had 3 separate ski areas.  Mt. High, Holiday Hill and Ski Sunrise.   Today we have Mt. High West (A jam packed dangerous mess), Mt. High East (open almost never) and Mt. High North (Mainly a tubing park).
My question is this. Why does Mt. High Management NOT put some effort into what I see as being the premier terrain in the area and open up Mt. High East?
I prefer to ski Big Bear or any other area than Mt. High by choice even though I live about a mile from the East Mountain.  But, open up East and you'd solve a huge number of issues.    I understand exposure to the sun may limit the days but, at least, give the public what they are asking for and do your best to get the East Mountain open.
Tried driving up to take a look today and turned around about half way up due to the crowds.   Skiers and Snowboarders walking up to West Mtn and looking at East wondering "Why?".   Minimum wage management gets minimum wage results.

I would love to see Mt. High sell the East Mtn which will never happen.  It's getting to the point where a boycott of Mt. High in general is the only answer.

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.  Wishing you all the very best in 2015.

Dave

In my opinion the ownership at Mt High does not care about the service it provides it's customers.  Mt high is content on relying on their convenient location and close proximity to LA to achieve huge profit gains. It seems as though they put in just enough money and effort to make the resort somewhat serviceable. I do not blame the employees, because they are underpaid and have zero structure provided to them.  It starts at the top and unfortunately I do not see a change for the better in the near future unless a different ownership group takes over Mt High.  People will not stop coming not even I since I live in Wrightwood and it is just too convenient for me to get in and out before it gets too crowded.

^ Pretty much sums it up.

Without natural snow they will run low on water and have a repeat of last season.  Improvements would also lead to more people and the highway can't handle a busy day already.  I have to wonder how big of parking lot it would take to allow everyone to park.

Mammoth has had 4.3 inches of water reported at Mammoth Pass as of Jan 1.  Last year 4.5 inches reported as of Dec 1 2013.  So the drought continues.

Bob - You know I've respected your opinion for a long long time and that won't change.

My sister lives in the Seattle area and has skied Stevens Pass for many years.   Ever since it was purchased by MH (Karl) it's gone down hill fast according to the sis and her friends.

MH needs to clean house and start all over.    This opinion is growing and seems to be the topic around town.

Anyway, have a Happy New Year Bob and all my Wrightwood friends.   I'll be skiing Bear, Summit AND Snow Valley.   Actually skied Valley last week and had a blast.   Smiles all around which makes it good.

Good deal.  They don't have any traffic, crowds or lousy snow over there.........

It's So. Cali and the crowds, traffic and sometimes not so great snow go with the territory.    Obviously the weekdays are my choice but go when you can.  That works for me.
Just hoping we see the East Mtn open this season.
