Mtn Hardware sells the E-raticator (sp?) and i swear by it.  We had a rodent problem months back and within 2 weeks we killed 8 rats / mice and none have been back since.  It eloctrocutes them so no bloody mess.

Deadhead.. Does that run on batteries? Aside from the mice my cat brings in as presents (lizards & birds too).. I don't have mice in the house.  I'd like to put something in the garage. cheryl o7o

Yes.  Takes 4 D batteries.  Put a little cat food  / candy inside as bait, press the on button, wait to see flashing red light to indicate something's dead inside.  Cost something like $60 but well worth it.

How long do the batteries last?

You could eliminate the batteries by wiring in a AC to DC 6volt wall transformer.

Good question firefly... is it like 4D batteries per rat? Or, what?

Skierbob.. I do have electricity in the garage. I also have an old mobile home on the far-side of my property. I use it for storage. I disconnected the electric to it. I'd like to 'move 'em on  out' (as they say on Rawhide) over there as well.  cheryl o7o

I also highly endorse the electric Rat Traps.  They are well worth the $60.  They advertise something like 50 kills per set of batteries.  I use peanut butter in a water bottle cap for bait.  No mess.

Cheryl,

I have a rat zapper and it takes 4 D batteries.
I haven't changed them in 9 months and have caught 7 rats and many mice.
Only way to go. Clean kill and disposal. The green light tells you it's set and the red light flashes when
you have a rodent.

Firefly, you need to keep them from coming in so seal off any holes you see, even very small and never leave doors open.  We used to get them from the garage when I would prop the door open to bring in groceries.  They are sneaky and not afraid to run by you.

Also make sure all kitchen cabinets are fully sealed so if you do get mice its less mess to clean up.  I bought a can of foamo and sealed up all the openings between the kickboards and the bottom of the cabinets.

I use the plain old fashioned spring loaded traps and bait them with peanut butter. A little messier than an electric trap, but it works every time. I keep score with a grease pencil on my refrigerator. So far I'm winning!

We bought the Raticator from Mountain Hardware. A little pricey but works like a charm. http://raticator.com

Thanks for the rec -  will call Mr. Pest Guy.  There are no mouse poops in my house.  The prior owners had a ton of stuff jammed under the house and when they moved out a plethora of mouse poop was found.  All inside holes to the house are sealed.  I'll check the kickboards and bottom of cabinets when I get home.  NO other mouse has been found in my house...just the one.  Hoping it is an anomaly.
