We were in the midst of home shopping in Wrighwood in July 1997. It was crazy to come into town with a fire raging and wanting to buy a house. Realtors probably thought we were crazy. I remember standing in the driveway of a house we had just seen and saw white flakes coming down. I said "Snow in July" and the realtor said, "No, those are ashes".
Thanks for showing the footage. It actually brought tears in my eyes because those were such terrifying moments that I physically ducked my head for the roar of the fire coming over the ridge.
One of the most touching things that I remember was leaving town after the fire was out and all the residents had put up signs along the highway thanking the firemen for their heroic efforts.
I think we should bring this up every spring so we all remember what a careless action could bring to this town.
