I wonder why they didn't move the vehicles to a safe location.

From what I heard it happened on a Sunday there was only one person working there that day.  She got up to stretch her legs... went out side & saw fire coming over the mountain.  It happened so quickly without any warning.  It was fortunate that she went outside in the first place.  The district office is usually a ghost town on the weekends as the office is only open monday through friday.

I heard the same thing Breezy.  I did hear that some of the vehicles that were lost were personal ones and not govt. I'll try and confirm that one.

While traveling with Jim Rough and Aaron Katona (REC-34) to do some water testing at Pyramid Lake and Oak Flats Campground the Wednesday before last, Jim pointed out the property off of Crown Valley Road as we drove by on the 14 freeway.

He said they had paid for the property but now had to find a way to pay for the building of the offices.  Perhaps the loss of the District Office in Saugus will speed things up.

Of course, I'm sure they could move the District Office temporarily to Valyermo, as it was in the past.  Of course it is a long way to the Northern part of the Angeles National Forest from there.

That was the Valyermo district office location.  When they combined the Valyermo, the Saugus, and the back side of the old Tujunga (don't get me started on what a brain fart THAT was!) they selected the old Saugus district office location as the D.O. for the new district.  They could locate everything at Valyermo for awhile.  They were going to sell the Valyermo site but didn't as they wouldn't have made enough money to make it worth all the work.

Yes, the property is purchased in Acton.  Remember, the forest employees can't lobby for additional monies but members of the public can call their congressional reps and do so.... ;)  Anyone up for a writing campaign to get some monies put aside for an office that is only 45 minutes from WW??

I vote for them using the old Valyermo District Office site until they get around to building on the Acton site.

If were lucky, that will be a very long time, if ever, and the "temporary" District Office in Valyermo is only 20 -25 minutes from Wrightwood.   ;D

I'm not sure where John Capell, Ray Kidd and Perry Bauman live, but it's a nice drive and they'll be going against traffic if they happen to live near the old Saugus location.
