We were on the 215 detour Sunday and passed this truck about 4:15.  We had our RV  in Yorba Linda and of course did not try to bring it back.

Just came home from Phelan and we could see flames from the 138 between Beekley and Sheep Creek. I am sure they were from the San Berardinos, but it sure looked closer.

The San Bernardino County Sun has the best local fire information on their website that I've seen, compared to the LA & Orange County news sources -- concentrating on the fires in our area.

Here is tonight's view from Phelan. The first photo is a water bomber heading to the fire under our full moon:

Outstanding shot of DC-10 Tanker 910 heading back to drop another load!

My assignment on this fire is to brief mountain fire evacuees four times a day on the Slide and Grass Fire.  I would estimate that probably half are Spanish speak so we do it with an interpreter.  There are at least 3,000 folks sleeping on cots at the National Orange Show.  Most left with the clothes on their back and nothing else...not even a tooth brush.  The Red Cross is doing a great job with taking care of their basic needs and pretty organized.  It's kind of like being in fire camp but much noisier.

I am not able to share much information yet as the focus has been on suppression and not information gathering.  We are starting to get the Public Information Officers that we ordered and will be able get more intell back down the hill.  Folks just want to know if their neighborhood is still there or not or whether a particular landmark or area they like is gone.  By Friday, we have the difficult task of starting to share which homes have been destroyed or damaged. The mood will change then and each day will be another difficult one.  They are hopeful and want to believe that what they left will still be there when they are allowed back up.

This will be a challenging ten days or so as Friday is the one year anniversary of the Esperanza Fire and the loss of the crew of Engine 57.  Be thinking of our men and women who are putting themselves in harm's way out there every day for the good of us all.

Wildman,
Keep up the good work, it takes a special person to do what you are doing effectively.
All we are hearing on the news is that the professionals in this matter have it handled.  This is not going to be a "Katrina."

I found it colorful to hear a guy from CalFire calling the DC-10 "the biggest tool in the tool box."  I know it is just one tool, but it sure is the one that everyone wants to borrow.

Nice shots Justa, Calindy, Angelwolf, and PJ.

Talking about special people and firefighters, this shot from the LA Times is just incredible and shows the lengths these heroes go to protect us.
