Not counting the San Francisco Quake of 1906, there were 472 deaths in this 196 year period, averaging to a little over 2.4 deaths per year. Adding in the estimated 3k from '06 changes this to over 17.7 per year. The SF Quake was an anomaly as regards deaths, primarily caused due by the fires that occurred after the quake.
