Wrightwood's AM 1610 Radio Station
« on: Apr 18, 08, 06:28:45 PM »
This is a heads up to let you know that Wrightwood now has its own advisory radio station at 1610 on the AM band. It is in a testing mode operation now and will be moved to its permanent location in the near future. You should set a button on your car radios to AM 1610 so you can hear news that affects our community and announcements of events, emergencies, road conditions, weather alerts and much more that deal with your safety and to keep you informed.  It would also be a  good idea to have a portable AM radio, or even more than one, that operates off of batteries or by cranking so you can listen to the broadcasts in and around your home.   One portable radio that I would recommend, if you don't have one, is the Sony ICF-S10MK2. It is a very good little radio that has good reception and sound, fits in your pocket and is inexpensive.   I have been testing it out and it runs a long time on two AA batteries. It is available from Amazon and Sears for $10.

This new radio station should be a great asset to our community.

I got to watch them risk life and limb putting up an antenna!  ;D

Will there be other things on the station, like music by local artist when there is no news? I like that Cajun music by Chicken Bone.

Sorry Jack, there can be absolutely no broadcast of music of any kind or the mention of any name of a business that could be construed as advertising. The FCC is very specific in how this radio station can operate and what we can put on the air. It is to be used for information of a non-commercial nature only. But there is good news, you won't hear any commercials. ;)

Wrightwood Community Radio is up and running. During evening hours transmitting power is reduced for the time being.

If emergency conditions warrant the radio system power would be increased immediately. The system includes a battery backup that enables the system to run continuously for up to 48 hours.

I tuned in yesterday to get the info on the phone outage.  Not only did I get some info on that, I was reminded that next weekend I can get our new dog micro chipped for only twenty five dollars at the hardware store!
Thanks Wrightwood!

Congrats on the new puppy HB! Technically, the micro chipping booth will be near the entrance to the County Yard and not  Mtn. Hardware, but it is still close. ;)

Good job learning to tune in AM 1610 when something is happening, now everyone tell your friends and neighbors and don't forget to tune a button on your vehicle radios.
