Moonstruck Farms
« on: May 30, 08, 05:01:47 PM »
I have just begun a small business that I am hoping will grow into a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) for our local area.  I have a 20 x 40 greenhouse that is full of tomatoes and peppers and cut flowers and have a 1/4 acre being developed for green beans, edamame, several squash varieties, cucumbers etc.  What do you guys think?  Is our community ready for this?  If not, I will be canning until midnight every night!  Let me know your thoughts and since there is no more Market Night if you have a venue or site I could sell at once or twice a month?  Oh, and I almost forgot I always have fresh eggs!

Thank you so much, but unfortunately I was not clear, they are plants only at this time and thanks to last week's cold spell are just getting going again.  Probably about another three weeks and I should have tomatoes and peppers and cut flowers popping out of my ears, and the rest will not be ready for six weeks or more (they are all outside and night time temps have been too low to plant).  August - November will be the bulk of my crop depending on how the weather treats me.

If I succeed my DH will build me another greenhouse!!

Good luck with your garage sale!

This is super news.  Is it organically grown?  Just tell me when and where and I'll be there to buy.

I am not certified organic due to the overwhelming overhead, but I do practice all organic methods.  The only pesticides I use consist of milk and soap when needed, and my fertilizers is comprised of soybean meal, rock phosphate, kelp meal, bone meal, gypsum and dolomitic lime.  I also use manures to boost humus and nitrogen.   My family eats all that I grow and I would not do it any other way.   I am concentrating on a Wrightwood location due to my customer base already includes several Wrightwood residents.

Thanks for the support.  I will let you all know as soon as I decided on a location and when the crops come in.  We are hopping to have tomatoes and peppers and cut flowers within three weeks, barring another winter storm?  Thank goodness for greenhouses!

Once again thanks and I will keep you updated.

Locally grown, fresh produce is what I travel to Victor Valley College's Farmer's Market for each week.  If I could get it from a grower right here in Wrightwood - W  O  W!!!  I am definitely in, just keep us updated and I am sure you will have more customers than you know what to do with!
And by the way - THANKS!

Same idea here, would much rather grow it myself than spend the money driving all the way to Victor Valley and to be honest I am very suspicious of a few of the suppliers there and where the produce comes from and many agree with me.

I hope you are right about customers, because if all goes well I will either have a lot to sell or be canning until midnight every night!!  Wish me luck, learning still, and everything is well on its way in the greenhouse, but already learned that I should have started the corn, squash, etc that is going outdoors to get me a head start since everything I planted a week or so ago is probably rotting thanks to the 30s last week.  Lesson learned, I should have a great harvest from late July to November with any luck!  Keep you updated!

Thanks for the support!

Forgot to ask?

What would you like to see offered in local produce?

Tomatoes (no brainer)

What kind of peppers if any?

Squash?

Greens?

Let me know.  Latest requests have been for more greens, chards, kales, etc.  Anything else?

I bought my first bag of Moonstruck lettuce today, and plan on having a delicious salad with all the fixins for dinner tomorrow ;D

The mix looks real good, almost like a spring greens type, but meatier with lots of color and texture, and very crisp too!
