It's the day after the Chino Hills earthquake and geologists are inclined to say that the quake was caused by the combination of a thrust fault and a stirke-slip fault in a movement called a oblique-reverse faulting. "There's faults all over the area of Chino hills: The Whitter Fault, Chino Fault, Elsinore Fault and Puente Hills Fault." No one, yet, seems to know whose fault that it was. Quakes have already kept man quessing what caused them. From the big one of 1857, that affected our area and reversed the water flow in the Kern Rivers way up north, to the most recent ones, earthquakes always keep us guessing. It was in 1937 that William Bristol, the man who built Wrightwood's Acorn Lodge, wrote a newspaper article that reveals quakes in a clear fashion. Just for the sake of local history, we share the article that came from the our historical archives in the museum. Earthquakes will continue to happen, perhaps its gotta do something with our hills.
