Looking for apples
« on: Sep 04, 08, 06:47:25 PM »
I'm a local jam maker looking for "local" apples to use in some jams this next week.  We have fruit trees but not an apple yet.  If anyone has any fruit that can't use - let me know.  I'd be happy to trade jams for fruits!  Oh, and looking for unsprayed, untreated fruits - thanks.

Thanks,

Amy

I was going to suggest west Hollywood, but I suppose many of those fruits are sprayed and treated.

Just kidding folks.

Hi Amy -- I have a tree that bore heavily this year, but I should have thinned them. They're not very sweet this year. If you want them you're welcome to them, and I will take you up on you kind offer of jam!

It was a pleasure to meet you and your husband, and your jams are AMAZING. Pretty, too. You should put your website address in your signature.

Does anyone else make jam? We could certainly have a jam trade!! These are the jams I make (so far):

Pear Ginger Chutney
Peach Mangosteen Jam
Chunky Plum Jelly
Plum Jam
Peach Jam
Apple Butter (several types from local and non local apples)
Grape Jelly (from three types of local grapes)
Cherry Jam (from local Cherries)
Very Berry Jam (this is several berries and plum mixed)

I have more apples than I could possibly ever begin to use, you are welcome to how ever many you can pick.  I won't be home next week but you absolutely can have some apples!

O.K., Amy -- your apricot jam with pistachio nuts is SHEER HEAVEN. I have had it on bread and then on turkey (sounds weird but it's amazing). Just thought I would share!

Sounds great, Chris (and Amy)!
So, how does one go about getting some of these marvelous sounding jams?

And Amy,
My wife used to get Knott's Crabapple jelly and loved it. They've quit making it and we've yet to be able to find a replacement. You don't happen to have a crabapple jelly of your own do you?

There are a bunch of crabapple trees on the corner of Apple and Acorn. They are empty lots and we always gather up the apples for our friends horses so they dont go to waste but tons of them still do every year. If you are looking for a lot of apples then you should hit that place up.......

Whatever happened to Lone Pine Meadows apple farm?

Are there any local apple farms open right now or do you have to drive all the way to Oak Glen?

Like BabyEagle, I also wonder if anyone knows why the Lone Pine Meadows Apple Farm shut down and if they have plans to open again in the future.  Somone, please let us know.

There are some fruit farms in Phelan.  One is the Roaring L Ranch.

You might also check with the farmers that show up at the Farmer's Market on Friday...
