HamCity (Jun's Electronics on Sepulveda in Culver City) has similar sales going on.

At Hamcity you can get the Kenwood TH-F6A for $275.

As you know John, I really like this radio.  I've gotten very proficient at programming it and we'll have to get a "workshop" setup for those who have this radio and don't know how to use it.

As Clint said in his last HAM Class, a fancy radio doesn't do you much good if you can't program it on the fly.

That's a great price RobertW.

That would work out about the same price depending on Culver City sales tax rate. No tax from AES but there would be shipping.

At that price you can't afford not to have this radio, if for nothing more than a backup or spare.

Of course you know you're supposed to declare goods bought via the internet from out of state on your Taxes.   ::)

I have the VX-170 and it's a nice radio.  The only problem, apparently, is low transmit audio.  I have read that if you puncture the watertight film in front of the microphone, it improves, but then of course it's not watertight anymore!

I would love to attend a workshop on how to use this radio.  I have no clue how to even type in a frequency, let alone program it in.  I only know how to turn to the channels that some nice person programmed for me.  ;)  I could read the owner's manual, I suppose, but I know so little about this stuff that it's easier for me if someone shows me and explains it.

The Kenwood HT TH-F6A  (INMOP) is the best HT on the market today with 5W on all bands. We own several and the programming is a snap.  ;)

I wish Kenwood would re-introduce a new version of the tri-band mobile again (TM-742). Fortunately, have one in each vehicle x 3 and they're scarce used and cost as much used as new for the popularity.

Buy the TH-F6A and don't look back.  ;)

RW's radio survived an un- expexted submurging........ :'(

I just made the modification to two of these radios.  I found some very detailed instructions online and followed them.  It was a piece of cake!  A very small circular piece of what appears to be teflon tape covers up the tiny hole that is the opening to the internal mic.  I did not do a before and after check on the audio, but from everything I have read, it will improve the audio.

If anyone wants a copy of the instructions, I will be glad to post them or send them in an email.
