I just spoke with Marlene Martinez from Caltrans, who is in charge of arranging the ceremony for reopening Angeles Crest Hwy 2. She said Hwy 2 will be open to public travel at noon on May 20th. She also said that the public can attend the ceremony and it was OK to post the flyer below.

For those who will be attending the ceremony next Wednesday, you are encouraged to carpool due to the limited parking available at Vincent Gap.

Hey I passed those bikers on my trip to Inspiration Point today! No wonder there were so many out today . . . obviously I wasn't paying attention to the date.

Thanks guys coming from two Canon DLR shooters that is a big compliment. First time I have ever used a personal necessity day in 15 years, and I get called on it. I had a few loose ends I also needed to tie up. BTW, great shots John. You do an awesome job of covering the local news. John definitely had the other reporters scrambling up hills as he got the best perspectives first. The slide show has been slightly updated and I will add more when I get more time.

I had a buddy bring up his Hayabusa ( WoW! I told him to take it back 'cuz if I rode it any longer I would have to buy one )to ride on the new portion and while chatting with other sport bikers immediately noticed alot of the "LA Crowd" has gotten word the Highway is open and were flocking up here. Hwy 2 has quite a Rep for being a place to get it on without alot of monitoring by Law Enforcement. I'll never forget the Labor Day when they had 6 bike down calls at once. Should bring alot more people up to our Village to eat and greet. Hope those guys ride safe!!!!!

KLRBach and I are taking the top off the Jeep and heading up the crest to WW this afternoon from Burbank ... We will be the slow moving vehicle on the crest this afternoon..but we plan to pull over and let people pass whenever necessary and take some pics. When we purchased our cabin in 2005, it was always our vision that we would be communting between Burbank and WW via the ACH. But we closed the deal on our cabin right after the road was washed out, so we never got the chance to make this run... today will be the first. And our commute will now be all side streets...... Glenoaks to Verdugo to Foothill to ACH. The ride back and forth is now part of the fun of going to WW.

KnittyGritty(Mrs KLRBach) and I left Burbank at 2PM and arrived in WW at 4PM. 2 hours and 70 miles... not bad... much nicer and more relaxing than the 210 -> 15 -> 138 route.

Clear Skies!

We usually go the 5 -> 14-> Pearblossom Hwy -> Barrel Springs Road-> Cheseboro Rd.-> Mt. Emma Rd -> Fort Tejon Rd -> Valyermo Rd -> Big Pines Hwy > Hwy 2 Route, but the 5 freeway was backed up bumper to bumper all the way into Burbank. So we decided to take Angeles Crest Hwy also.
We left Burbank at 4:10 pm and were at the cabin at 6:00 pm.

Last Friday I jumped on my little Harley (Lil' Snoopy) and rode over to Newcomb's with a neighbor couple.
We plodded along at around 35 to 40 mph and had a tremendous ride. It was marvelous taking in the scenery in the way only a bike provides. On the down side...you've gotta be careful entering those blind turns (of which there are many) to avoid rocks or other surprises. We're looking forward to many, many more rides before the riding season is over.

My goodness, the opening of the Highway, coupled with the holiday weekend sure did seem to make a difference in the traffic around town today. Everywhere I looked there were full parking lots - the Grizzly was nearly overflowing. Wrightwood certainly did not look like a ghost town today! Hope it was a better weekend for local businesses.
