In the old days, the downtown area of Wrighwood was what you might call a town that was always on the move. Like many other older mountain communities, including Big Pines Park (actually once referred to as Swarthout by the post office), many structures were built to be moved from place to place. One shack in Wrighwood was moved a record five times before becoming a sales office; it once sat in the area of Desert Community Bank.
The photo showing the snow covered building was moved, and no doubt carries its own memories; if was part of a early hotel complex that houses many visitors, including those service men heading out to World War 2 or assigned to nearby Victor Air Field (George AF Base). It might have house many who visited the ski hills in Wrightwood and near by Big Pines Recreation Park. It was called the "Martin," and along with the "Ross," (now called the Blue Ridge Inn) it was moved to this location in 1944.

The location was many things: hair dressers, and an assortment of shops. Today, white sheets hang from its window...its existence no doubt not as glamours as the Blue Ridge. It houses people...something it did over seventy years ago. Some of the staff of the Mexican Lindo next door stay here.
