I am interested in popular boating locations that Wrightwoodians  recommend.  (for both power boating and sailing)

Take the 15n then 40e to Needles and drive about 9 more miles to Park Moabi...  Its the best place on the river and its only about 3-1/2 hours. They have a lot of riverfront sites that are all sand and have jetties to block the current, so you can moor your boat right at your site without having to pull it out each day...

Best waterskiing we have ever had is the 9 mile stretch to the west between Moabi and needles.

There is also a really cool Canyon to the east/south caled Topoc Gorge- Lots of coves and swimming spots...

Unfortunately, now that they have opened Pirates's Cove in the channel, it can get crazy there especially on summer weekends.

Been going there for 25 years and never had a problem...

The best thing to do if you can, is get up at 5:30am and catch that perfect early morning glass before all the rest of the "partiers" are even up. Ski until 9am, have breakfast at camp on the waterfront, nap, then take the kids out in the tubes during the middle of the day when its choppy and then the late afternoon ski run just before dark when it glasses off again...

It doesn't get much better than this !

when the water leaves the dam at bullhead its about 53...brrrrrr, and by the time it gets down past needles to moabi, it warms all the way up to about 63.

Yes a little chilly in the spring and fall, but very refreshing in the summer when its 104 out. But then again, sissies like me usually wear a wetsuit for the early morning runs...

I've taught a lot of people to ski over the years (we had the boat) and I have found you either love the desert and the river with a passion, or its just not your cup of tea...

I can remember knocking on my friends RV at 5:30am asking if they want to ski and his reply was "go jump in the river", so I did...

I agree that this is a fantastic place to ski! I learned on a lake and had always gone to lakes and the ocean for some reason. I was a little wary of teaching my daughter on the river just because of my inexperience with river skiing and found that the current there was perfect to help her balance herself, we just put her in, pointed the bow up river and gave it the tiniest bit of gas and she popped up :2thumbsup: Easiest time we ever had teaching someone to ski! Our family loves going out there, we just don't get to do it often enough!

Thanks everyone for all the input...it gives me a great starting point.
I have booked a few days at Silverwood, and I am working on a Bass Lake trip.  Any info on Bass Lake and day trips from there to Yosemite would be appreciated.

If your a day hiker- From Curry Village in Yosemite, head northeast to the entrance of the Vernal Falls trail. Its only about 1.5 mi up the canyon and you can take some awesome pitures right at the bottom of it.

Further up the "mist trail" is the Emerald pool, the Silver Apron and then Nevada Falls. The famous John Muir trail is also up there and you can hikes for miles in either direction. (map highly recommended).

If you have little ones, I recommend only 8 yrs and above unless you have a babypack & can carry them. There are some steep edges, but its worth it...

Winterize your boat:
Especially-
Pull your freeze plugs on your motor so it doesn't freeze and crack your block.
I have heard a few horror stories of boats up here, even one mechanic had his block crack.
