Last year we had a renter next door that lit a bottle rocket while we watched from our kitchen window the first night they moved in!  They started to light another one until we ran out and yelled at them.  We then called the fire station and asked them to make contact with the renter so they would know we have ZERO tolerance for that behavior.  When the FD rolled up, they asked them about it and of course they lied.

What recourse do we have if we encounter this behavior again?

Have your camcorder ready, secretly film them lighting off bottle rockets and show the fire dept. the footage before they go over to talk to the renters.  Denying it won't work.

There was a report of Fireworks or gunfire on the East Side last night.  If anyone hears of Fireworks (and gunfire) this should be reported right away.

There is a Zero Tolerance for this
.  This is extremely dangerous in Wrightwood.  Please keep your eyes and ears open.  Report Immediately to the Sheriff & Fire Department.

Is Serrano having a firework show this year? Any other local shows anywhere? We had a change of plans and are going to be staying here for the 4th so I'm looking for something to do. Thanks!

No fireworks shows at Serrano anymore due to budget issues.  The Kiwanis used to do it, then then Phelan Pinon Hills CSD took it over, but it cost lots of $$$, so they just don't have the budget for it now (at least that's what I heard last year)

Here's a clarification that was passed along regarding the fireworks show.

The Kiwanis last year went to the CSD and told them they had to pay for the fireworks show entirely ($22,000) because they could not find sponsors. In essence it would be CSD sponsorship. The previous year the CSD sponsored the fireworks show for $16,000 and received little in return.  Last year, they refused to pay the full price and offered to sponsor $5,000. But the Kiwanis did not seek any other funding and would not compromise with the CSD. This year they came back with a better plan but again put the full burden of financing the show on the CSD at $26,000. They turned down the suggestion in January and told them that the CSD would consider being one of the sponsors. They never came back to the CSD and they had not gone out to gather any sponsorships. This is not a CSD event, it remains a Kiwanis event. Just to clarify $16,000 is for the pyrotechnics, the other $10,000 would be for the concert and other things.

Maybe it is a good thing fireworks were cancelled around here....we were down in OC watching fireworks from family's yard across from Irvine High, and the pyrotechnic company managed to set a fairly large portion of the area surrounding the football stadium on fire - they apparently had not cleared a sufficient "safety zone" of brush which caught fire, and in turn set the eucalyptus and pine trees on fire.  Here is a youtube(the excitement starts about 40 seconds in):

Wow! The fireworks were spectacular but I kept wondering when someone would notice THE FOREST WAS ON FIRE.

Just kidding, I saw the firetrucks arrive, but that's incredible.

Just heard what sounded like a string of firecrackers -- somewhere in the vicinity of Thrush/Heathcreek -- but was unable to determine the direction the noise came from. Anybody else hear it?  ???

Did anyone else on the west side hear the firecrackers just now?    Sounded like it came from the swamp area.

Saw and heard about 30 seconds of bottle rockets.

From Mountain View it was to the S/SE in the area of the old sag pond or just west of there.  Could have been the upper Lark area.  I first thought it was further up Acorn Canyon but it was nearer the mouth.

Engine 14 in the area now (23:08)

Maybe CA5th is right and it may be on Lark.   Probably not all the way up Upper Lark because it was definitely West of Division.   Since ForestGal didn't hear anything, it's possible the mountain and houses muffled the sound.

I heard it too up from Lark. Not cool.

In Rancho I saw a sign that stated $1,000 fine for setting off any type of fireworks. Sounds like a good policy to me. Hope the neighbors report the persons responsible.

Again with the fireworks somewhere near Lark and cedar, my guess is Edna.  Sounded like a brick of firecrackers.  What part of forest fire/burning down our town/your home don't they understand out there?

How long ago?  I'm on Edna west of Acorn and I've heard nothing.  Of course I have all my windows closed cuz I'm freezing, and I refuse to turn on the furnace in July.  What happened to our summer?

Shortly before my post, around 9:10 or so.  Music in the pines still going on so I am sure they did not hear it downtown.
