My guess is that if you're not in Wrightwood by 8-9 am don't bother. It isn't worth waiting in 5 miles of bumper to bumper traffic and turned away once you get close. The CHP closed Hwy2 and LArgo Vista a number of times yesterday and today. Tomorrow may be worse because of the day off for so many. Sorry to tell it like it is  ;)

Can't you wait until next weekend?

I forgot to mention. Make sure to get a Forest Adventure Pass if you park on forest property. You can get a one day pass unless you're planning on coming back. Then it's worth getting a yearly pass  :D

Great points we don't mean to sound like we don't welcome visitors.  We welcome visitors that's how our town stays alive.  In fact I've made some friends from down the hill.  The things we don't like are the people that leave their trash and their belongings laying around everywhere.  As long as you pick up after yourself you and all visitors are more then welcome to come and enjoy what Wrightwood has to offer.  The Adventure Pass is a must if you don't want to have your vehicle towed because it is on Forest Service land.  Also don't park in the middle of the highway there are turnouts along the highway to park and downtown there are also plenty of places to park.  By the way welcome to the forum and enjoy!

Mt High doesn't have a snow play area yet.  This page gives some suggestions, you'll need a Forest Adventure Pass for parking:

Hang on to your hats.  What you are seeing is indicative what we have to look forward to in years to come.  As TableMtn pointed out in a different post, there is a gazillion people coming the the great megalopalis (sp) down the hill and they all want to come play in the snow.  The trend of folks coming into town and into our yards is pretty new and we're seeing it more and more.

By the way....a call to the Victorville CHP office and Phelan Sheriff's Sub-Station thanking them for the increased and proactive enforcement will go a long way in insuring it continues.

You guys are being way too hard on our visitors. I saw some very nice, considerate and thoughtful vistors who put all their trash in a plastic bag before they left the bag behind as they took off.  >:(
I also saw some nice folk who decided to light up some fireworks while they were up here. And to think it is only going to get better with the increased population down below. :o

P.S. I think I saw some of the very same people in Wrightwood's pictures get kicked out of the Wrightwood Elementary School.

Digital cameras and published photos of the "parked snowplayers" might help!  The key word here is "might."

We left town at 10 am yesterday and the traffic coming into town on highway 2 went all the way back to the 138. Yes, people were playing in dirty snow! We stayed in Corona, went to a movie and waited to come home until we knew it would be safe. Terrible to have to do this! Well, the traffic was now backed up on the 138 headed south. Unbelievable. I really feel for you who live on streets that the snowplayers think are their playground. Rude!! We're on a dead end and fortunately they don't get up this way. We knew it would be like this when we moved here and it hasn't changed our opinion of our beautiful little village. We just have learned when to avoid the traffic and visitors.

As much as we like others to come up and enjoy the area as much as us who live here do, these are not the type of people we hope to attract.  Newspaper and magazine articles come out about the community of Wrightwood and about everything it has to offer.  Things like hiking, camping, skiing and shopping.  The type of people who come up and clog the steets, trespass, tear up the hillsides and leave trash are not the ones that we are hoping to attact with the press to the area.

How many of all the people who came up here this last weekend really spent money in town and benefitted the local towns people?  While store owners are running their stores, snow players are parking at their homes and playing in their yards.  Wrightwood and the county have to spend money and time to clean up after all these pigs.

Illegal parking, gridlock traffic on the highway, no Adventure Passes (and no forest service enforcement), bonfires, fireworks, trespassing, trash.  Sound like all the influences of living "down the hill", what we moved up here to get away from.

<insert flame retardant here...>

One Karma for telling it like it is. I totaly feel for the people of WW for the disrespect shown by snow players. Even down the hill private property is not respected.Don't leave anything in your front yard that you want to keep. It won't be there in the morning. Wrightwood is a beautiful and freindly community. It seems though that because of the large population down the hill and the increased growth of WW the only solution is to play by appointment only. But that would be a major undertaking to say the least. Good luck in the remaining winter months.

Before they changed the name to Mountain High, they spelled it wrong. It should have been called Holiday Hell. :2thumbsup:

Lets collect the diapers not to use against the visitors but to dump on our elective officials desks who are responsible to US since we elect them.  To me it doesnt matter if the property is "occupied" or not.  Its PRIVATE PROPERTY for enjoyment of the owners not visitors.  The owners could always post a sign to invite people to play but they are opening themselves up for liabilities if someone gets hurt.  I still say we should have a Wrightwood User Fee so temps and equipment can be hired to help protect our community!
