It was reported today at 3:00 pm that there were 820 cars parked on Hwy 2 from Big Pines west to Grassy Hollow and 200+ cars were parked on Big Pines Highway to Jackson Lake. It appears that Inspiration Point, Appletree Campground and Jackson Lake were completely beyond any capacity that the facilities were ever designed for. In addition people choose to ignore signs and put themselves in dangerous situations. Lots of broken plastic sleds and trash has been left in the environment.

Jeff's pictures are amazing. Wow, when I was a kid our parents would take us to the snow in I guess the western Sierra area (we lived near Bakersfield). Mom would pack a picnic lunch, Daddy would always drive us to some safe place, we 3 kids and our parents would throw snowballs, have lunch, pack up all our trash if there weren't cans available, and take it home. What part of that way of thinking is missing now? I guess it depends on how you are raised, but geez, is that so difficult?

The adults do not appear to recognize the danger.
The reason for that is undetermined.
The failure to believe the warning signs is also unreal.

So when one of the family falls through the ice; because of all the traffic and parked cars, it will take emergency crews precious extra time to navigate through all the traffic to get to the lake.

These people do not realize how stupid they really are. They really do not value their kids lives much if they let them play on the frozen lake.

This was taken on Christmas Day 2012 at Jackson Lake.
San Bernardino County Fire Department transported two of the near drowning victims treating them for hypothermia. They had ice rescue suits ready to go, but the victims had been rescued before they got there.

People need to speak up politely. Its a skate park!! Can't have law enforcement policing it for things like this. Self policing by skaters has proven effective.

Those kids look like they're having fun without snow. Isn't that what the skate park is all about? And, I bet they'd take turns and enjoy watching some of the hot doggers at the skate park. cheryl o7o

1 was at the Veteran's memorial park
2 were at the skate park area
