But, that family may not have realized they were walking on a lake.
Road signs point to Jackson Lake. Signs in the area say Jackson Lake. I'd guess that most maps and GPS apps show Jackson Lake. There is a trail that goes around on side of the lake. Not one trail or marking on the lake. There are "stay off the ice" signs. That whole area is very mountainous, except for the perimeter of the lake itself, which of course is flat. You'd think they would be able to deduce that this might actually be the lake they're standing on.

Jiminy Christmas!

Volunteers can scream demands at various Hawaii beaches all day long like... "Stay 6 feet away from the sea turtle!"  "You are too close to the sea turtle, get away!"

"Do not Step on the Corral or Touch the Corral While you Snorkel Out!"

God forbid we scream out to Humans "Get Off The Frozen Lake Before You Die!"

Its because no one dies from touching Sea Turtles or Corral.  Government weighs the cost of lawsuits in this equation.

But as Wrightwood (John) pointed out to the Forest Service in our Fire Safe Council meeting they will have a difficult time explaining if multiple deaths (5, 10 20?) occur because they choose not to do more to prevent it (like officially closing the lake or more).  Its top level decisions or politics.

Jeremy.. I'm starting to appreciate your sarcasm.

I still remember .. back a good number of years.. when the lifeguards at Santa Monica used their bullhorns to say:  "The ocean is closed."  Ya know, compared to that, one little lake seems doable.  cheryl o7o

This one should be nominated for our "Have your wits gone wandering award?"

Question:  What happens to these folks who come back and find their car has been towed?  Is it towed to a lot in WW?  cheryl o7o

I will assume that the vehicle owners call Law Enforcement to report the vehicle missing/stolen and then learn that the vehicle was in fact towed for parking violations. They then have to figure out where the vehicle is and then figure out how to get there.

The towed vehicles become the responsibility of the approved tow company and are taken to the company's storage yard/facility. So, it depends on which company tows the vehicle. Speculating here but I will assume either the Hesperia HD area or if the tow is requested by AV CHP then the towed vehicle probably goes to the AV (Palmdale/Lancaster area).

One of the problems with more consistent towing of illegally parked vehicles is that there is no place nearby to store these vehicles. If there was an approved storage facility in closer proximity they would be able to handle more vehicles. By the time the tow driver leaves the area with the first vehicle(s) it is less profitable to return through all the gridlock to get another vehicle.

I'm looking for information on the Table Mountain gated access road.  I'm curious how much snow is on the road as I need to access the radio site out on the ridge.  Where the road crosses onto the Northern slope it can easily become impassible due to drifting snow and it being in the shade.

When I worked for Mt High, I would take them up in a snow cat. don't know if they still do but call and ask.

I was planning on going today which isn't going to work out.  With more snow coming I think it's going to be a week or two before I attempt it.   My truck has to make it up so I have all my equipment and ladders.

It's that time of the year to bring this topic back current.

What a shame so many PhotoBucket photos are no longer available.

And at $400/year, it's clear they don't really want the personal user as a member either

Went to Inspiration Point this afternoon at 4:30 and there were a moderate amount of snow players and I had no slow down to get there.  However, something tells me that tomorrow and MLK Day will be another story.
