Spectacular Joshua Tree Bloom
« on: Mar 31, 13, 06:08:22 PM »
This season experienced the perfect amount of rain and cold to set of a spectacular Joshua Trees bloom in the high desert.  From Littlerock, Valyermo all the way to Joshua Tree National Park almost all the trees are in full bloom.  It appears to be an historical event over a very wide area which should last for about three weeks.  Check out the blooming Joshua Trees when headind down the hill.

They are indeed spectacular this year!  I first noticed them a couple weeks ago while driving to Phelan, then a couple days later to Victorville.  That's as far as I've ventured in quite a while (I don't get around much  ;)), but I did notice that the blooms seemed to be early, and very beautiful.  Well worth even a short drive, just to check them out!

Last week when the UPSMan came I asked him how he was enjoying the spectacular Joshua Tree bloom on his routes. He said "where?"' and I pointed some out, and he was astonished! He said he'd notice them from now on...he concentrates on his deliveries and roads so much he said he didn't notice the scenery as much!

I never knew that joshua trees bloomed until the other day. My son and I were walking the dog off Desert Front and noticed a stand of the trees with these amazing huge blossoms. Very lovely.

My owls are somewhere else :-( . We see them rarely now. The Joshua Tree they always came back to lost a huge limb during a heavy snow, and they never came back. I wanted to add 2 more photo's, I loved the blooms!

Calindy.. those are great photos. I have somewhere between a gaggle and a plethora of Joshua Trees here. I've never seen so many blooms in one season before. They are just beautiful. And, then I get to watch the birds and squirrels eating them .. too perfect.  best, cheryl o7o

Thanks Cheryl. I had fun photographing them, I wonder how many of them came down in that horrible wind we had Monday?

There really wasn't much going on with the Joshua Trees in JT National Park.  Nothing like what you guys are showing.

I haven't done it in a few years, but I used to make really neat neaklaces out of the seeds from them.  Round and flat, like Pukas, but  black.  Just a thought.  :)
