Anyone have any information on why there are cut tree stumps all along the upper left edge of the Heath Creek slide?

I heard that years ago there was some logging done up on table mountain and that a certain group of people that used to live over Pearblossom way would might have occasionaly log from this area. Don't know much truth in this story but I'm sure you could find something out at the Wrightwood History Joint. A gal named Pat might have your answers too.

I know that when my brother and I were hiking the area on Memorial Day Weekend a large forestry crew with chainsaws was unloading at camp Guffy.  It appeared that they were clearing some of the area of dead and fallen trees.

Perhaps the plan called for trimming the area around the slide.  I know that for years I have run into freshly cut stumps at the edge of the slide.  I always felt that they were clearing the edge of trees that were about to slide off the edge and perhaps clog the wash system down below.

The stumps that can be seen remaining on the East edge of the Heath Creek slide were left when trees were removed to reduce pressure and down force on the soil. The area was not logged prior to the slide, but some years after as geologists felt this would help to reduce the possibility of further slippage. The Museum has a photo from the nineteen forties that was taken after the slide event but prior to the removal of that timber.

There was some logging done on land owned by Judge Nix in the early seventies.  They put in logging roads and worked on taking out trees for two summers.  There was quite a contingent of folks standing in front of logging trucks waving signs.  A remnant of one of the old logging roads can be found off of Lark.
