Ok, I now need to get more serious about my water supply here. I really wanted to buy some of those water barrels at the Disaster Day/Fire Safe Day a few months back. Alas, there were too many grandchildren in the truck.

So where is the best place to buy them around here? I do have a supply here.. but I want to get more serious about it. And, I need to have water for horses as well. cheryl o7o

Thanks Wrightwood... so what do you do when it freezes? I'd like to have a couple barrels down in the barn for the horses.

You leave a couple inches when filling to provide for expansion.
Freezing has never been a problem on the barrels we've kept outdoors for close to 10 years.

Where can I get those drops that you put in the 55 gallon drums to make sure the water is good for five years?

I got mine from Pat Bittenbender a year or two ago. I am not sure if she is still doing this or not?? I found this page that has her contact info.

I have some water barrels up North like the ones pictured.  After two months of below freezing and 4 days at -20f they still hadn't frozen solid and they did not expand enough to crack.

There is an AWESOME store in Rancho Cucamonga that carries tons of disaster preparedness supplies including the blue water storage containers.  It's called the Honeyville Grain store. I believe it's on Archibald, but I'm not sure.  http://honeyvillegrain.com  It's a really interesting store. Check it out.
