Fenner Crews' Community Service
« on: Oct 04, 13, 07:00:02 PM »
The crews from our local Fenner Camp provide a lot of services to our community.
One service is clearing brush (tumbleweeds in this case) from our Village Trail, and from along Highway 2, so that our routes out of town are safe in the event of fire.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

The work the Fenner Crews do is clearly crucial to the safety of all of us and families who make Wrightwood home. A big thank you to them for their good work!  Thanks for sharing Nolena!

I still remember the community Spaghetti feed that the community provided for the firefighters on the Sheep Fire.  Our IC allowed all the crews to cycle through .  We fed all the CalFire/CDC crews first and it was very apparent that they were enjoying all the attention.  We made sure that they heard just how much we appreciate all that they do for our community during the fire and year round.  They do make a significant contribution to keeping our area clean and safe while paying their debt to society. Many go on to very productive lives post incarceration...some even getting jobs in the wildland fire community.

While hiking this summer I have seen these guys out several times, every time I run across them on the trail I make sure to tell each one of them thanks for the work that they are doing.  The service they provide is indispensable, especially so in the current climate of budget shortages and government shutdowns, etc.
