People Selling Car Cleaner at AMPM in Phelan
« on: Oct 28, 13, 03:14:33 PM »
Last week we bought some FW1 car tar, bug, and sap remover from some people with a booth outside of the gas station in Phelan. If you buy it they give you a supposedly "free" $25 gift card to a local restaurant. I just wanted to post a warning because the gift card thing doesn't work they gave us one that the code had already been used and the car cleaner does not work also so beware.

Thank you for the heads up on the Car Cleaner and bogus gift card.

I have also had some negative experiences in Phelan recently.  The panhandlers in Staters parking lot are pretty aggressive now - a couple of days ago, one young healthy looking young guy followed me to my car and wanted a bottle of water I had in my cart - not happening - I have worked all my life for what little I have - these guys are physically capable of working, that's what they need to do in my opinion - get a real job.

I heard Stater Bros doesn't want them doing that there anymore and is calling the sheriff when they see them.

No one bothers me at Stater Bros. anymore now that I have my pepper spray and kubaton on my key ring.  I also have a stun gun in my purse, but they don't see that except at night when I use the flashlight.

If you have not done so, talk to the manager of the AMPM about the car cleaner.  That is total BS.  >:(

I've heard people complain about the bums in the Stater's parking lot but I've never had a problem.  I ignore them and they ignore me.

And, it is now that time of year when panhandlers or thieves get more brazen. I can recall some circling my Mom as she shopped at Stater Bros.. you know.. with one thing in their cart. Or, you just see them walking around with nothing. They do scope out older people. I'd pull up next to Mom and just stay there. I also put my purse in the bottom of my cart with groceries on top. I keep my cell phone and my keys in my pocket. I've had my wallet lifted out of my purse before. I didn't realize it had happened until I got to the checkout stand. It was an older woman and a younger man that both pushed on either side of me. One distracted me.. the other swiped my wallet. And, unless you plan to use them.. don't take your credit cards and other i.d. with you. Or, keep them in a pocket.
My thoughts.. cheryl o7o

And, maybe this is common knowledge, don't know - but some of the scammers are better off than the victims.  Years ago when I lived in LA, I sometimes handed money to the people standing by freeway onramps with signs like "will work for food."  That was until I saw one of them get into a car much nicer than mine and drive away.  After that, I heard of incidents where the victim would be taking money out of their wallet to give to the panhandler and the panhandler would grab the wallet and run away.  That did it, since then I do not give any $ or gifts to any strangers.
