California May Owe You Money
« on: Jan 06, 14, 09:51:09 PM »
California's Unclaimed Property Law requires "holders" such as corporations, business associations, financial institutions, and insurance companies to annually report and deliver property to the State Controller's Office after there has been no customer contact for three years. Often the owner forgets that the account exists, moves and does not leave a forwarding address, or the forwarding order expires. In some cases, the owner dies and the heirs have no knowledge of the property.

There's a lot of local folks and businesses listed.
The best method I found for browsing the list:
1) search on Business
2) put in one letter for name
3) put in Wrightwood or Phelan, etc for the city

That will list all claims personal or business that start with the letter A in Wrightwood

I'll take a six pack as a finders fee for anyone that is successful  ;)

Yep, last year I claimed $128 owed to me.  I also found money for several relatives.  $350 for my aunt, $50 for my mother-in-law, $2.97 for my brother and  :o $1297  for my sister-in-law.

That was fun, I found about $5.00 for a relative, $29.00 for another relative and lots $ for local business owners.   It's easier to check when the business tab is clicked..it shows names and business...quite comprehensive! Happy New Year

They owe me 72 cents.  However, I noticed several family members with some amounts worth pursuing.  Thanks for posting this.  Am passing on the info to the family.

I check this occasionally.  The same $30.22 is still owed me ($20, $10, and .22) that I have not claimed.  I have found a lot of money for friends, though.  There's a lot of money waiting for Wrightwood people.

When I was just a little kid in Kindergarten and First Grade (1960 and 1961) my mother used to send me to class with a little manilla envelope with a couple of quarters in it every week. The school had a "Passbook" Savings account set up with Bank of America, encouraging parents and kids to save money.  As I was much older, I asked my mother whatever happened to the money in that savings account that we had through school.  She told me that it must have been withdrawn and closed years ago.

Guess what?  No it wasn't.  I found $33 and change listed under my father's name and my name "Bobby" with an address I moved from when I was 6 years old.  Also found $75.00 owed to my Grandfather who has been dead since 1996.  Got to love it!

Filled out all the paperwork required for 3 business claims we had amounting to about $300.
Today we received a confirmation that they logged in our claim on Jan 10th.

We did receive our 3 business claims that showed up last year and was nice getting close to $300 of unexpected money.

Today in the mail we received a notice that another company shows they owe us close to $400.

Make sure to check and see if you have any money coming as it's been updated.

Last year we were treated to dinner by one recipient who received a bundle and 1 six pack from another person.

I use this twice a year for the company I work for and always check for family and friends.  I have found so money for people (some too little to claim) but not bad.
