At my appointment today, they were talking about that.  It was because since New Year Day was on a Saturday, they gave them today off.  Should resume to normal tomorrow, I hope.  And just think, less than 2 weeks until MLK weekend!  That one is usually crazy as well.  I'll remember to stock up this time.

Wrightwood Residents Can Call Agencies Regarding Illegal Snowplay, Vending

The Wrightwood Community Services District is reminding its residents to call in concerns regarding illegal parking, illegal snowplay or illegal vending to the proper authorities rather than posting to social media accounts (which are not monitored by public safety/county agencies).

Snowplay is illegal in the village of Wrightwood. Legal snowplay/sledding is available at the Yeti Snowpark at Mountain High's East Resort.

Why doesn't the LEOs go down the line issuing illegal parking tickets and then start calling for towing?

The tickets are really not that much in my opinion and is not enough of a deterrent. As for tow trucks, the tow companies often refuse to respond at times of gridlock. It take way too long to get to the area and way too long to return to their tow yards. LE has also voiced their concerns with leaving people stranded without a car and the liability if someone was to be injured or have a medical issue due the the cold weather conditions.

Not saying I agree but those are the reasons I have heard,

If they can write tickets from red-light cameras, shouldn't the same work for unlawfully parked cars, especially if they're blocking fire/safety responders.

In 1973, I first became a Firefighter with Wrightwood Fire Department as a Paid/Call firefighter.  Assistant Chief Steve Damon was driving the ambulance and I was the attendant in the back of the low Suburban station wagon Ambulance.  On a big snow day weekend, we picked up an unresponsive male who had collapsed on Park Drive and started down the hill to SB Community hospital code three with lights and siren with me doing CPR in the back.  Hwy 2 was gridlock-138 was gridlock and Steve parked the ambulance on the center line and made our way down.  The NB freeway offramp for 138 was packed up all the way down to Blue Cut.

This anecdote does nothing to mitigate the frustration that folks living in Wrightwood have.  It's a reminder that some things don't change all that much and those who live there still have 20 million folks who see the snow on the faraway mountains and want to come play in it. 

Where I live now, there is plenty of snow but folks seem to be a bit more respectful of private property and know how to drive in snow and ice.  After decades of watching folks sliding their cars down Pine street, I sympathize.

SB County Reminding Mountain Visitors: 'No Snow Play on the Roadway'

If you decide to visit our local mountains this weekend, please remember that there is no snowplay on the roadway. Additionally, there is a parking penalty of $150 for stopping, standing or parking on a San Bernardino County highway whose width is restricted by snow conditions.

Currently, there are no legal snowplay areas that are open to the public in Wrightwood except for the Yeti Snowpark at Mountain High East Resort. Our First Responders are unable to respond to life threatening calls due to visitors illegally parked on both sides of Highway 2 in Wrightwood.

Wrightwood residents should phone in concerns regarding illegal parking, illegal snowplay or illegal vending to the following agencies:

Wow, as a graduate of USC, I attended all the home games during the 6 years I was in attendance, and as an alumnus for about 10 years.  Parking was no where near that expensive, all those years ago.  But nothing was.  We attended many out of state games too.  Those were the days!
