History-Wrightwood Elementary School
« on: Feb 18, 15, 03:38:58 PM »
Greetings, Wrightwoodians!
I am privileged to be the principal of Wrightwood Elementary School, and I want to tap into the school's long, rich history, the former students who went on to accomplish great things, and staff and students who remember stories and people that made the school so special.  Please help me collect the following, so our students today will know that they are part of a wonderful history, and the memories they're creating today will last a lifetime.

1.  We have begun collecting college pennants from universities where Wrightwood Elementary students have graduated from.  We've got UCLA, Notre Dame, Stanford, Harvard, San Diego State, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Colorado Western, Cal Poly SLO, CSUSB, Loma Linda, and others.  We're hanging them in the auditorium, with the alumni's name.  Please help us add to the collection.  I want the walls covered!  Also, the ultimate honor is to recognize our former students who have served in the military.  I'd like a pennant from each branch of service, with the names of servicemen and women listed, surrounding the American flag.  Imagine how great the auditorium will look when this project really takes off!  Please contribute names and pennants to honor our former students.

2.  Pictures of Wrightwood Elementary School from "the old days."  We have one picture of the one-room schoolhouse from the 1930's, but I'd like to line the walls with pictures that will tell our school's story to everyone who visits.

3.  Stories of the people and events that made being a Wrightwood student unique and fun.  I think it is really neat that we still have people living in Wrightwood that attended Wrightwood Elementary School in its first year of existence (Pat Krig!).  There is a great history in this school, and I don't want the stories to be forgotten.  Please share any that would rekindle memories and would provide a living history of our school.

Thank you, Wrightwood community, for your support of our school!  We strive to be the pride of Wrightwood.

Thank you for all these excellent articles!  As I'm trying to piece it together, I see the following:

Wrightwood School was started as an "Emergency School" in Sept., 1929, with 10 students.
In Sept. 1930, Wrightwood School had 20 students.
The enrollment in 1933 was 35, and in 1934, it was 37.
The original school building was built between Aug.-Nov., 1937, at a cost of $10,000.

That's all fantastic information, and I hope to keep gathering more.  Thanks, Wrightwood!
