Incident Overview
Summit Fire as viewed from north of Big Bear Lake at about 3:00 pm 8/23/15
The Summit Fire is burning near Snow Summit Ski Resort south of Big Bear Lake. It was reported at 12:25 pm and is approximately 100 acres in size and is now 30% contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation and it is burning in timber.
Mandatory Evacuations are in place for the area from Knickerbocker Road east to Georgia Road and south of Pennsylvania Road to the forest boundary. Voluntary evacuations are now in place for the area south of Brownie Lane, east of Thrush Drive, north of Switzerland Drive, and west of Summit Blvd. An American Red Cross shelter has been established at the Big Bear Convention Center, 42900 Big Bear Blvd, City of Big Bear Lake. There are currently fourteen (14) evacuees registered at the shelter. Small animals may be taken to the San Bernardino County Animal Shelter (Devore) located at 19777 Shelter Way, San Bernardino, for questions call 909-386-9820.
Per Big Bear Valley Unified School District, all schools with the exception of Fallsvale School will be closed tomorrow, Monday, August 24th, for student and staff safety.
Forest Roads 2N06 (Radford), 1N54 (Clarks Grade), 2N93 (Wildhorse), and 2N10 (Skyline) are closed due to the Summit Fire burning in the Snow Summit Ski Area south of Big Bear Lake.
Trails closed include: Towne, Skyline, Champion Lodgepole Pine, Bluff Mesa, Grandview Point and Seven Oaks. Group Campgrounds closed include: Deer, Boulder, and Bluff Mesa.
