Notice of Fire Hazard Inspection
« on: Oct 10, 15, 09:54:10 AM »
I was going to put this in the "Fire Fee" section.. but I couldn't find it.

Yesterday, a fire inspector evidently inspected our property.  I say "evidently" because we found the notice on the gate. Therefore, I assume it was a visual inspection from the street. The good news is that there were no violations observed and we passed. The bad news is that he or she must have been blind.  I've read through all the possible violations and found several that need to be corrected.  That will be done. How to correct the Joshua Tree that is growing next to the propane tank remains unclear to me. We are in the "Mojave Desert Conservation District" here and removing Joshua's is a no no. But, hey.. we evidently don't have to remove it.

There was a section for the inspector to mark "occupant not home 1st attempt".. 2nd attempt, etc.  We were home all day.  That is why I am assuming it was a visual inspection from the street.  I actually would not have minded at all if the inspector had honked at the gate and asked to enter the property. I try to be anal about brush clearance and other fire hazards.  I'm always willing to learn. I do really hope that they cited my east neighbor's property.  I've reported it several times.  It is a total fire hazard as well as a location for squatters.  Nothing has been done about it.  I am assuming that this is my "fire fees" at work.
And, I am glad we passed.  cheryl o7o

Cheryl you never mentioned what agency the fire inspection was completed by.
Was it Calfire, SB County or the USFS (which I doubt at your location)

I know it sounds confusing and it is. All 3 agencies do fire inspections that overlap  ::)

The notice at the top of the "Notice of Fire Hazard Inspection" read:   "State of California, Department of Forestry and Fire Protection."  I do endeavor .. now that I'm older..  not to be confused.  Example:  the last notice to my east neighbor about cleaning up his place .. where no one but squatters live and the joint is a fire hazard.. was posted by "Cal Fire." I have not forgotten that .. and I'm not confused about it.  Course, nothing has been done.

I must note that I have a "white" notice. And, that I passed.  I should also note that there are actually other colors for other notices... as in Canary, Pink and Gold. This is annotated on the bottom of my notice.  Each color evidently telling you that you may be in ever increasing deep dooky.

Don't get me wrong here.. I do love all of our fire fighting agencies.  I so love them I can't spit. That said.. I could rewrite this notice for them so it would actually make sense to those receiving it.  Example:  There are different requirements for "Horizontal Spacing" betwixt shrubs, ground covers and other ornamental Plants"   Now, I just need to figure out if I'm on a flat or gentle slope.. a moderate slope.. or a steep slope.   There are different requirements for each.

But I passed. And I read the notice and I can see a few more things I should do. They were already on my list of things to do. I really, really want whichever agency to take care of my east neighbor's property.  It is a hazard.. both for fire and just squatters and kids likely.   cheryl o7o

Just so everyone is clear "State of California, Department of Forestry and Fire Protection" is Calfire.

I would contact the inspector via whatever contact number is given, just to sure about what is going on.

There was no tel number on my notice.  I'm sure I could look it up. The notice lists violations denoted A - O. I'm going to use that as my guide even though I passed. There are just a few things I want to address.  I've actually been pruning a few trees outside my property line in the right-of-way because they were a hazard IMHO.  Thanks for clarifying that it is CalFire.  I now see that in the little logo. (my eyes ain't what they used to be). Pruning here is like painting the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm now on my third weed wacker. cheryl o7o
