A few months ago I decided I wasn't using my ham gear enough to have it around, so I sold it. Big mistake. I'm really wishing I had it now, it adds a whole nother dimension to feeling prepared. The ability to hear what others are seeing and talk to them about it is pretty cool. I just ordered one of the cheapo BaoFeng dual banders.
If anyone is on the fence about becoming a ham I can't recommend it enough. Even if you just sit on the side and listen, like me, it's comforting to know someone is there if the SHTF. Besides you always wanted people to think you're a geek, didn't you?
