Good news on the quick response to get lanes restriped.  Regarding the photo of the Lone Pine car mud deal.........

Can you really imagine someone thinking that turning into a roaring river of mud and rock was a good thing to even attempt?

Here's the SB Co. Fire truck that fell 30 feet when a chunk of the 15 eroded. Traffic's still slow on the 15 South.

Will they able to restore that engine to be usable again?  I heard that the vehicle itself is worth $600K, plus all the equipment, which is several $K more.  Thank God that all the firefighters were safe.

It's my understanding that the engine is totaled - some of the equipment will be salvaged

Thanks goodness there weren't any deaths from last weeks storm.  A special thanks to the County and Cal Tran repair crews who no doubts had to work under arduous conditions.

Actually there was a death and a lot of near misses.  A man died in Victorville after trying to cross a water filled roadway.  SBCOFD Swift water crews found his body in a car in a mutiple car incident.  All others were rescued successfully.  Although there as been a lot of media about not crossing mud or water filled roads....people still feel that they will be ok.  Sometimes that doesn't work so well.

Yeah, I heard about that. I wish people wouldn't try to drive across these things.
But, then, I also wish people would evacuate when they are told to (as in the recent fire).
I guess I can wish.

So, what's the current condition if I have to got down to Rancho from the east side of town?
Can I take Lone Pine to 138 to the 15S as I usually do, and are there big delays on going south on 15 due to the one missing lane?
Thnx

You bet. you can take LP....unless some more rocks and mud slide onto the road.  You will be into the normal freeway lanes and spacing within 30 seconds of entering the freeway and then subject to the normal slowdowns of the Cajon Pass.
