Just don't say "yes." .. a new scam
« on: Mar 24, 17, 06:51:47 PM »
There is another article on this scam in the LAT today.  Unfortunately, I may have been a victim of it myself.  So far, I have not received any bills for something I did not buy. I have received a good number of telemarketing calls in the last two months. It has gotten to the point that I'm considering signing up for phone blocking. I am on the do-not-call list.

I've received numerous calls from a security firm and a solar firm that are marketing in our area.  The solar firm showed up at my front door. To do that he had to come through a closed gate and walk a few hundred feet to my door.  I calmly asked this 6'3' and half-as-wide guy to leave. He started to argue with me. Big mistake on his part. When he didn't listen to my request to leave the property - I let loose on him. He was escorted to the gate. He may well have been legit.. I do not care.  Hope this post helps someone else.  cheryl o7o

I solve this problem by not answering my land line phone unless the caller ID shows a number I recognize.  I figure if it's a legit call, the person who knows me will leave a message.  Those unwanted callers never do leave a message.  I rarely get unwanted calls on my cell phone, as I only share that number with people whom I want to have it.

There's a way to make money on unsolicited marketers that ignore the do not call list

Heres where i learned about it. I havent done it myself, hadnt had an opportunity yet. Since the guy actually showed up at your place, you may have some moolah coming your way if you do some footwork

Thanks Jeremy. I did go to your link and you have to sign up to read the piece. It is designated as an "unsecured site" .. so I didn't go there.  Perhaps I'll google 'violations of the do not call list" and see what I can find.

And trust me.. by the time I was through with that guy.. he is never going to show up here again.

ForestGal... I do have caller i.d. I have the landline set on four rings before the machine picks up. I can never get to the caller i.d. in time to read it. Perhaps I should just have the machine pick up after one ring. I also do not give out my cell number.

Thank you all for your suggestions.  cheryl o7o
