Note: Alex Peterson volunteered as a temporary secretary for the CSD and gives a good recap of highlights from the first meeting in her Facebook posting below

Alex Peterson Turnout was excellent - room was full. The Board has not been able to do anything official prior to the swearing in, although members were researching their responsibilities and practical items that need addressing immediately. Basically the first wave of action involves various contracts that need to be changed over to the WCSD, some to be renegotiated, a bank account to be set up, and General Manager to hire. There are a lot of procedural rules that need to be followed involving how the Board can meet and why (ad hoc committees 2 members/special committees 5 members) as well as the standing public committee meeting which will be monthly (possibly bi-monthly at first). Various ad hoc committees were established at yesterday's meeting to handle the various items on the agenda. The most important and immediate items are purchasing insurance/interim insurance (ad hoc committee to do this Monday), retiring current support staff (staff where let go and have to be rehired Wednesday), and deciding on the scope and services for the hired position of General Manager, advertising the position, interviewing the candidates and when 3 finalists are chosen going public with them and choosing the General Manager (process to be decided). Other items of interest - Solid Waste Contract already renewed s trash will continue although the contract needs reviewing for possible renogitation, there is a bit of an administrative mess with the LA section of town and dump cards/taxes paid for dump cards that the committee has to investigate and handle, a budget has to be developed, an accounting firm chosen (Hank Hallmark suggested it should be a firm based in town). I offered to volunteer as secretary until someone else is found with Lynn Crawford as back up, the legal counsel was retained (Steve somebody who has been helping the transition for free and who is needed for some of the paperwork on some of the transitional contracts, and Lynn, Lori Zuber and I are monitoring and cleaning the public toilets today, tomorrow and Tuesday until the actual staff are rehired and ready to work hopefully Wednesday. If they are not then we will do some kind of public call for a cleaning rota to help get through until the hires begin. The committee ad hoc meeting is takin place Mon daytime with a special meeting on Mon evening at 7 at the Community Center to follow up on the immediate needs. Great to be involved at the beginning to understand all the duties and responsibilities the WCSD actually has. It is a tremendous amount of work! Especially for the next 6 months. There were no outside service reports (i.e. police/forestry etc). These will be scheduled later when the committee has completed theme sensitive issues on the agenda.
