Because the State requires that you remove trash from your house once per week. The limit is 500 lbs each time but in reality if it is normal household waste it should be far less then that. 50 lbs is about right according to the numbers I see for all of last year. We use the limit to try and accommodate the Green Waste (pine needles and leaves) which could come out close to the limit or even above depending on a persons yard. But if someone were to hit the limit every week I would say it is commercial and not residential at all, which is expressly prohibited.

Your response is more of a statement than an answer to my question. But it does bring up a couple more points. If someone brings the max each time, they are within the rules, but you will guess they are commercial??

And, with the state requiring us to remove household trash once a week, why do we only get 36 punches and not 52? If we follow the state law saying remove trash once a week does that mean we pay for the remaining 16 trips to the dump that the card doesn't cover?

If I read this correctly, we get 52 punches (one per week) not 36.

The punches were prorated for the year. The new cards next year will be for the full 52 weeks.

so we cant go on a long vacation because of this requirement?  I never hear of weekenders being penalized about this.   Crazy...sounds like some one who came up with this didnt think about this all the way through.

How are the weekenders being penalized? Reading all this several times, it makes sense:  52 drops at 500 lb max a drop whether or not you use CR&R...which means that those of us who use CR&R also get this card thus we can also take stuff to the dump in addition to our weekly CR&R trash pickup.

I am away from my home for months at a time and still pay for my CR&R pickup.  While I am away my home generally doesn't generate much trash.

That said, it would be even better if we had the ability to use the card 52 times a year regardless of the week (say for instance 2 dumps one week, 3 dumps another week...not to exceed 52 dumps a year).

Avocado Flyer... Years ago, we did use our dump card multiple times a week. There was no problem. They would also use more than one punch for excess weight. I don't know if the rules have changed for that. Just call them and ask. cheryl o7o

I was more just curious.  So many people are in an uproar over the dump cards.  I just want to make sure I understand how it works (and I think I do).  Fairly certain I will never use mine...but...just in case.

I have never used mine in all the years I have lived in WW.

When we go on vacation, we don't generate any household waste at home -- no Amazon deliveries or cereal boxes or used paper towels.

Follows that we don't have anything that needs hauling.

The rules aren't new.  They're being enforced because a few bad apples have been dumping more than household waste.

Using our new dump card now for a few times - I have to say that I liked the old one a lot better.
No, not because I like to dump 30000 lb of construction trash, but with the new card it takes so much longer at the dump. I don't know how measring was done with the old card, but we showed the card when coming in, left our trash and drove out - there could not have been any measuring. Now, after emptying the car, we have to drive back on the scale to determine the weight we left. As there is only one scale, not only we have to wait, but all the other cars waiting in line on the way in, also have to wait, until we are done.
There is definitely room for improvement, as I think, that only very few SUVs will pack more than 500 lb in the back. There should be some 'obvious-less-than-500-lb' determination when entering, so that we could leave without the second jump on the scale.

I used mine too, the other day. I was weighed in and out one time under the County rules too. The operator probably thought I had too much stuff, and they couldn't "estimate" how heavy it was. Sure, weighing to get out is an extra step, but it didn't really take long.

I'm more surprised that the county isn't enforcing their own weigh in/out rules.. they MUST be losing a lot of money.

Even within that less than 500 lb load we need to know the accurate weight. It is 3 cents a pound. So 100 pounds is $3.00 and 400 pounds is $12 bucks.. it adds up.

Me too. I have tried to show them that they are losing a lot of money this way. They could put the additional revenue into another exit scale and recycling stations. Recycling is mandated by the State, they really should start making plans and invest in these programs.
