There is good news;

There is now a SNF tab on the SB County Covid Dashboard. Really nice job they are doing on this website and putting everything they can - very informative.
From that you can see that over half the deaths are in SNF or Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Very good news on that site - Doubling times have steadily increased and is now at 20.4, and the death facility rate has been dropping steadily as the number of positive cases are going up but the deaths are not following at the same rate as they were a couple of months ago.
A spike in cases does not seem to follow with a respective spike in deaths, this is good news.

That is true. We also have to look at our positive rate. The current 7-day average is 19.9%. Those details are in the CDPH link at the bottom of the page.

Wes, Look at the CDPH link on the dashboard. That shows charts for the various goals the County much reach to open up more. The charts show the goal and where SB County is at in relation to it. Right now, we're moving in the opposite direction. Cheryl

Given an evidence-based look at the science, I'd be all for the Swedish model of leaving everything open and relying on people to wear a mask when sharing air with strangers in closed spaces, if we could just convince a certain segment of the population to do that. If everyone wore a mask in public and moved as much as possible outdoors, we'd be okay.

That's interesting -- I have a friend in Sweden and she told me they are wearing them at the stores, etc., it's just voluntary, and the western media is misreporting it. That was months ago, I'll have to ask her again.

What stands out to me is that the County will have to have the number of cases drop in order to meet the criteria. The goal in March was to flatten the curve and keep the hospitals ready to accommodate the additional expected load and to keep the deaths to minimum. That made sense then and makes sense now. Now that it is understood that half the deaths are coming from SNF's why isn't the concentration there instead of closing down businesses that are not responsible for half the deaths.

I love the County's website by the way, they are doing a great job in producing the numbers. The number of positive cases are not dragging the hospitalizations or deaths up at the same rate as the cases are, that is just good news.
The State should remove the criteria of the number of cases being used as a metric to open things up, such as restaurants and gyms and nail solons. The new cases are not coming from there, if they ever were.

Unfortunately the county's numbers are not accurate. There are way more than 9 cases in Wrightwood. I know that for a fact, but can't share my source.

I can tell you that there is a disconnect between a medical facility and the county when it comes to reporting cases. The facility has had more positive cases in Wrightwood than the county has shown on their website.

When you are dealing with such small numbers and the complexity of reporting to and thru a bureaucracy there are bound to be errors like this. I would not be surprised in finding out that the numbers may be higher.. all things considered using the existing numbers to predict and set policy are very useful.

It is starting to become obvious that locking things down is perhaps the opposite thing we should be doing, barring a vaccine that is.
The Swedes are down to something like 2 deaths per day - they did much better than the rest of Europe without locking down;
