SB County is at 7.5% ICU remaining capacity - up slightly but this changes daily
Cases divided by Deaths continue to decline. ..67% - Testing is really increasing. Rapid tests are starting to be everywhere now - I know I am taking advantage of this in our company
0 Deaths in the last 7 days - Really this number is not a good number as the data lags behind and is filled in later..
6 Deaths in the last 14 days - Good news in a County of 2.18 Million people

--Wes

Wes,  Where are you pulling these numbers from?

There were 1407 deaths reported on 12/23; 1442 on 12/30; (no report on 1/1,2);  and 1454 on 1/7.  That's 47 deaths in that 14 day period and 12 in the last seven days.

More importantly to us here in the Tri-Community, positive cases between 12/23 & 1/7 were Phelan 904 to 1140; Pinon Hills 234 to 285; and Wrightwood 211 to 252.  The 7-day positive rate for SB County as of 12/29 is 23.42%. We're running a bit behind that here but not by much.   The number of ICU beds available today is 143 for a county of 2.2 million.

These numbers are from the County Dashboard.  I make note of them. Cheryl

The same place he got the notion that people getting together on Thanksgiving didn't cause a viral transmission surge.  Absurdity.  Why do I get the sneaky feeling someone might be running for public office.

People should have to have a license to transmit information on the FCC-governed internet.  No hiding behind pseudonyms.  And just like driving, you get 5 lies or statements of misinformation before your license is suspended.  And anything extremely severe gets your license revoked.  Why should I have to register to drive, register to fly a remote controlled airplane, but be free to get on the internet to misinform and help create division and promote destruction?

Joe,  Your plan could save some grief - but it would kill the Internet.  Though, we should do a constitutional amendment and apply it to Presidents.

I am getting them from the SB County Dashboard. Looking at the Deaths tab. I can't bring up the site at the moment, perhaps it is down for a bit.

Joe I never said that.. what I said was that there wasn't anyone getting the virus that I could see from air travel itself - as in on the plane. My point was that I didn't want to see different businesses restricted that did not have a history of spreading the virus. Same with outdoor restaurants.

I am not running for public office, I already did my duty there and I have no interest in it.

This is the kind of opinion I'd like to see banned from the airwaves/internet.  Opinions like this are apparently too dangerous.

I get info from this website https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/california/
It says San Bernardino had 32 deaths today at the time of this posting. If this is correct then we are at 1486 now.

WDB123 -  The County Dashboard states the same numbers on deaths.

Joe Schmoe, UIA is correct in that the chances of getting the virus while ON an airplane is rather low due to the way the air circulates and refreshes (which is about every 2-3 minutes).

It sure looks like there was a big post holidays surge in cases and deaths, I am in my 60's and have Asthma so I just don't go anywhere anymore.

WDB123 -  There were some marked increases in cases reported on the 4th & 5th - plus 7000 & 10000 respectively.  Those cases would have been for seven days prior.  The rate for the seven day period ending 12/30 is 22.04%.   The hospitals in the High Desert are over capacity.  We should all refrain from doing anything that requires stitches.  Going to Stater's for our weekly shopping feels like a birthday party.

I don't think this area ever had enough hospital capacity, there was supposed to have been another hospital built off of the 15 freeway but that seems to have been abandoned now.

Before all this I spent a 5-hour flight behind a man who must have had a combination of health problems and some odd dietary choices.  He passed gas repeatedly while he slept and it was all but unbearable.  Sorry - the air handling inside an airplane has proven, to me in my actual experience, to be physically, tangibly inadequate (no need to explain the difference in gases and particulates, I'm aware).  Flying on a plane is not a sanitary, benign scenario.  Acquiring it on a plane probably happens all the time, but the lag before the positive test or symptoms allows enough uncertainty about picking it up elsewhere.

And all of this ignores the airport terminal....another place you are in proximity to many people for a long time.  You can't deny that.  So, what are people doing?  Not getting it at either a terminal OR a plane?  Or are people in denial out of some self-destructive sense of protecting business?

I don't know the answer to the questions raised about flying.  What I do know is 9 times out of 10 when I flew - I got a cold days afterward.  It could have been a coincidence.

Joe, I literally laughed out loud at this comment!  I'm sorry you had to endure that.  I had a tiny (11 pounds) dachshund who was a living gas bomb.  I would hold her on my lap while I goofed off on my computer, and sometimes, it was just unbelievable how that tiny precious creature could produce that!  At least I could set her on the floor or let her out back.  I can't imagine having to endure that for 5 hours with nowhere to escape!

Oh, I can deny it. Joe, if I read you correctly, the gassy dog anecdote was pre-pandemic. I previously "owned" that I'm a potential part of the problem (flew to see younger family at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year) and all I can tell you is it's at least as safe as going to the grocery. Either 6 foot of distance while wearing masks works or it doesn't. No one crowds in the terminal; seriously, the TSA lines are different, and if your flight is at Gate 15 folks tend to spread out across Gates 14-16; this is easy because there are fewer flights. And there's no place where folks are on better "mask behavior".

Another fun fact: the "inflection point" for cases in CA -- the date where cases started rising sharply -- was mid November, and for deaths it was early December. Those data suggest that it began before "holiday travel". Did it start because of Halloween, or did it start because it's simply when cold/flu season generally starts in CA? I don't know. But linking cause/effect to travel is a conclusion based on logical assumptions, not actual evidence.

A second Wrightwood family lost a family member to Covid in the last 24 hours.
