I absolutely agree with you Cheapskate about the misleading nature of using percentages with low numbers. The one death in the whole County that was reported on 1/21 was in Wrightwood. There is a family there grieving. I also agree about the impact of density. Except the Tri-Community area is running a positive rate of 27-30 and WW is at 18. How do we sort that out? It's the straight percentage of positives and we're running higher than the county as a whole and even areas like Victorville, Fontana, etc.

I am curious about your assertion that the Phelan/Pinion Hills positivity rate exceeds places Fontana. The last few days have been bad for SB county, Worldometers.info site is showing 73 deaths for today after 15 yesterday. SB is now at 1667 deaths.

Cheapskate et al, This is the link I use to look at the County data. If you go to locations in the nav bar at the bottom, you can then click on the left nav bar for the community/city you want to look at for details. If you click on that community say Wrightwood - it will show the "positive rate" currently for Jan. 3-9 as well as other details. For WW it is 18.5. Phelan is 27.8 and Pinon Hills is 30.1. The data lags as you can see. Currently, Victorville & Fontana have lower positive rates. I'm looking at 'community cases" it will show "outbreak cases" which are facilities. This same link now shows 1667 deaths in SB County. That is 73 more than yesterday. I assume that was data entry catching up. You can click around on the nav bar at the bottom for different types of data displays. The Details section offers some explanation. This link is updated daily.

Just adding that the link Cheapskate posted more-or-less goes to the same link I posted. Cheapskate's link didn't have the expanded info. Why? I don't know. Of note, the # of positives went up a bit for the three communities in the Tri-Community yesterday - but they didn't report additional tests. The positive rate didn't change. Is our high rate a function of percentages running high with low numbers? I guess it could be. I make note of the positives for our area and how they're trending. The current trend is up. The benchmark is 8. We're well above that. There are 122 ICU beds available in the whole county. That is functionally zero.

It isn't a coincidence that NOW the governor wants to lift strict orders. Aren't our numbers still so high? Wasn't this whole thing about following the science and nothing to do with politics? I am not sure who they think they are fooling, but CA needs to wake up and challenge all the damage that has already occurred because we have a governor who doesn't know what he's doing. After Biden's inauguration, WHO announced that the numbers were not as accurate as they originally told us, and NOW they are admitting the test are not accurate............HORRIBLE!
