Not San Bernardino specific, but this is the best representation of where we stand on COVID. In the face of a graph like that, if you can't bridge to the idea that holiday-related travel (yes, on planes too) caused a spike then no one is ever going to get you there...and that's not reason, that's religion. To be fair, I think there is an overlap between a holiday-driven spike and a spike from what has been reported as a more contagious version of the virus. We will know if the latter is true if we level off to a value higher than we were seeing in October.

Also, I'm reading elsewhere (elsewhere not being Facebook or Fox News...elsewhere being local news outlets) that the coroners office still has to make a determination whether the death of a person was related to their ongoing COVID infection, or some other condition. So, I *foresee* us moving into a new version of media circus whereby coroners are finding reason to NOT attribute a death to COVID, whilst a small handful of deaths that follow obtaining the vaccine are being attributed to the vaccine, not those same underlying conditions, and then massively shouted about in certain media outlets.

In light of the graph, the statewide re-opening makes sense. The decision was made within roughly two weeks of the peak on 1/10. Exactly who among the recall nuts would make such a decision with less than two weeks of supporting data? If someone out there thinks we should be making such decisions with LESS than two weeks of data, they aren't qualified for the position. Keep those self-destructive suggestions to yourselves.

If you go to the dashboard - you'll see that they corrected data. That reduced the number of tests by approx 150k. The dashboard is updated daily.

The problem is the UK and South African variants and similar mutation are about to become dominant, and that will make the holiday spikes look like blips. It's been exactly a year now since it was clear this was a pandemic, and we continue to be reactive rather than proactive.

I think it would be proactive to test, test, test, and isolate. I'm not a medical professional so I don't know which tests are best, but we need something that's readily available with fast results. Look at the sports teams that have played this past year. They test constantly, why can't the general public and essential workers have that testing available to them? It all comes down to the money.

KW, you are so right about it being about the money. The sports teams make millions of dollars so they find a way to play even though their players keep coming down with Covid. That infuriates me. The counties don't have access to those kind of dollars so their residents have to wait both for results and vaccines. It's all about the money.

There are a lot of things that have bothered me in the public health response, but I was referring to the timing here. Everything we do has been a few weeks late. None of the waves have been a surprise, but every time we've waited until the hospitals were already strained to increase restrictions. This next wave with the new variants is three or four weeks away, and it's going to be the worst of them all, with 50% more transmissibility and 30% more severity. We should be keeping the current restrictions in anticipation of that, and emphasizing travel restrictions in hopes of keeping them geographically isolated. We've been closing the barn door after the horses run away. Come back and find this post at the end of February.

Businesses must be required to reconfigure their air handling systems to bring high volumes of fresh air into the space, and exhaust high volumes of air. Lazy businesses have done shamefully little to mitigate spread of airborne contaminants...look around your local grocery store...the $200 in plexiglass and $10 in plastic bags they have deployed...billion dollar companies have spent next to NOTHING. Also, shut down international air travel and require TWO negative COVID tests to cross state lines - one test dated between 10-14 days ago, one test within 48 hours or less. And I don't want to hear the crying about commerce, because it can only get worse if we reach the point where the United States is one of the few first-world countries left who don't have a handle on the virus. The rest of the world might just begin treating us like lepers...which makes us weak, and vulnerable. Imagine the all of the commercial, financial and world-power progress gains others will make while we sit around and whine like children over masks, and resist taking the vaccine.

Example: Australia hasn't had a single COVID death since October 19th(!!!), with an average of 6(!!!!!!) new cases per day. How long before our allies start walking away?

Yes to all this. And UV air filters. Also no public messaging about the importance of vitamin D. Zero. And surprise, surprise, when the sun gets low in the sky, the second wave comes. And nothing about prophylactics whatsoever. In India they're going door to door handing out blisterpacks of ivermectin, D, C, zinc and telling people to take it if they think they were sick or exposed. Costs $2 each.

My doctor prescribed Vitamin D3 for me, I was buying it over the counter before he prescribed it but not at nearly as high a dosage.

I got my first vaccination on the 28th at the Health Center in Hesperia. I had made an appointment on line. (I had no problems doing that on the San Bernardino County site.) I got there 35 minutes early, and was checked in immediately. It was quite well organized, and the employees were pleasant, helpful, and professional. The whole thing took me about an hour, including the 15 minute waiting period afterward. My biggest question (Is there a restroom?) was answered in the affirmative. I advise taking something to do while waiting. (I took a crossword puzzle book.) An hour before, I took a non-drowsy allergy pill and used my asthma inhaler. (Something I had learned to do, from my allergist, before the allergy shots that I took for several years.) No side effects, except for a little soreness at the injection site the next day. I have not yet been able to schedule the 2nd shot, as my time frame for that has not shown up yet. No problems.
