Well, the CSD wasted money on that report... I personally don't see any problems with the County supplied snow removal services (at least for SB County... I don't know how the LA County side fares). Not sure why the CSD felt the need to try to take on this service.

Bob C, I totally agree. I guess I should pay more attention to the CSD agendas. I used to be on their mailing list but never get anything anymore. I imagine they thought they might make money from this endeavor and so that's why the interest. But after a quick browse of the report, I didn't see who would own the equipment, who would cover accidents/liability, and would the drivers be employed by the CSD? Too many questions, I guess I should read it all the way through.

It's an interesting report, I learned stuff. I hope we didn't pay a mint for it, since clearly we can't recover any revenue from switching.

BTW, if CSD can work out a deal with the snow plows NOT CREATING GIANT BERMS, I'd be happy!

> `I believe there has been discussion regarding broadband service in the past and one of the underlying problems was the law required the transfer of the service to a local operator if requested. This provision is no longer mandatory, the law specifies that the transfer "may" be approved so this might now be a consideration the District wishes to evaluate.`

What exactly would this entail? Building a new network or purchasing an existing network from one of the operators in the area like UIA?

Talk about a money pit. Why on earth would the CSD want to take this on?

I'm not advocating one way or another on Snow Removal.  The only problem I have with the current system is the berm at the end of my driveway.

Our county taxes are apportioned by the value of each service.  Money given for each "power" (service) goes to the CSD instead of the county when the CSD takes on a power.

For example, we pay the County for street lighting.  The street light money goes from the County to the CSD, and the CSD pays the SCE bill each month.

Our taxes are unchanged.

My questions (and I have not read the report) are:

Is "snow removal" separate from "road maintenance?" and "is there enough money to cover staff and equipment?"

I'm sure that's part of the study.

I'm sure the CSD did the study because people griped about snow removal, and the CSD can only pass on the gripes to the County, they can't really fix it because they don't have the "snow removal power."

Reading just the first page of the report, the money comes from gasoline taxes, and those can't be reassigned to a local entity, so that's really the end of the discussion.

Also, farther up-topic, Wrightwood says that someone felt strongly enough to pay for the study, so it cost the CSD nothing.
