Interesting observation - Mary, Jim, Jeff and I all have our addresses listed as "PO BOX PO BOX 29xxxx." I wonder what we did to cause that? We weren't sitting close enough together to copy off each other's paper. ;D

I haven't received that yet, but did get my radio and accessories.  The radio is programmed and ready to go.  I'm still working on having my first radio contact with someone I know.   ;D

Robert - This dealer seem to be in your area. Do you know anything about them?

We use the 118 when returning from Camarillo, so we should pass close to the store. From that freeway how would I get to the store?

I have done business with them.  Very nice people.  Of course my business was always scanner accessories as was not a HAM.

They have moved.  They are no longer on Victory.  They are actually much closer to me now.

1525 W. Magnolia Blvd.
Burbank, CA  91506

Burbank is a little out of the way from the 118, but from the 118 you'd take the 5 freeway South.  Get off at Burbank Blvd and turn Right.  At the bottom of the Hill you're going to have to make a left. (Don't let this intersection intimidate you. Lots of lanes.  It is the most congested intersection in the city and most people try to avoid it.  It really isn't that bad).  Once you make your left, you are going South on Victory.  Turn Right at the Second light.  This is Magnolia.  It will be on the Right side of the street about 6 blocks down.  It is past Mariposa which is the first light you come to.

A word about HRO.

The Anaheim store is run by people who are both nice and know something. The Burbank store has consistently given out bad and outright wrong advice to people including some new Wrightwood hams.

I try to send everyone to Amateur Electronic Supply first, HRO only as a poor second choice. I have bought lot's of gear from both for over 25 years and I always been hapy with AES and usually happy with HRO Anaheim. I will not shop at HRO Burbank.

Robert - Would I be better off taking the 101/134 to Cahuenga, North to Magnolia, East to the store?

Clint - I will be going in with a shopping list, no ups, no extras, no substitutes. Would you anticipate any problems doing that? I would prefer using that store purely because of its location as my trip to Camarillo takes me near there every week.

You can do that.  Get off at Buena Vista (three exits after the 134 interchange)  The sign says turn right for Buena Vista, but turn left.  (You'll pass NBC Studios and Johnny Carson Park.  I take this offramp off everyday after work)  Turn Right at the signal (This is Alameda).  At the second light turn Left. This is Buena Vista. (Disney Studios and ABC is on the SouthEast Corner.  If you circle the Disney lot, you can see the Pirate Ship from Prirates of the Carribean sitting up on top of the parking structure.  They needed it on the property to do some reshooting or retakes.).  Take Buena Vista to Magnolia (4 lights) and turn Right.  From this direction, it will be on your left hand side.

Following these directions also gives you a mini tour of the locations of a couple of the Burbank Studios. (NBC, Disney and  ABC.  We also have Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon just a few blocks away).   Despite what you've heard, Burbank is the Media Entertainment capital of the world, not Hollywood.  ;D

And Bob had his first "Q" on the way there.

I was in the LAX area at the time and met him on the DX club Mt. Lukens repeater. His HT did ok getting into the machine and the signal was much better after hooking it up to the mobile antenna. The external speaker mic enhanced the audio very well....to no suprise. ::)

Ken, with a shoping list you will be okay. Just don't listen to a thing they tell you.
An HRO employee just told a new ham that a Larsen 5/8 wave base loaded antenna
did not need to be tuned and was all set to go for 2 meters. Nothing could be farther from the truth and this advice could potentially have ruined a new radio!
