Actually I have to figure out how to program this thing first.

I hope I'll be there. :)

Did you make contact?

It looks like a nice radio.  My suggestion is that you gather a number of freqs and repeaters that you want to program into your radio and then sit down with the manual and do it. One after another. After a few channels you'll be amazed how simple it becomes.

You learn best by doing...

Get as familiar with the radio and its features as you can.  That way they'll stick in your head.  That's what I have to do, now that I'm old.  ;D

Exactly what Bob said, fortunately that's a very easy radio to program. I echo all 'dat....make a list and sit down and program by hand. Well, since the software isn't available any longer, I guess that's all you can do. ;) That radio has U.S. automatic repeater shift built in so that's an easy one. But you need to learn how to turn off the repeater shift for simplex. Once back into VFO, you will have to turn the repeater shift function back on. "F" key then the #4 (rpt) and turn the dial to + or -

 Have fun !

I was inside (the wind is howling and cold - Yuck) and I was using the rubber Ducky). I am trying to decide what I want to do about an outside antenna. That should make a big improvement.

I have always prided myself in being able to set up electronic equipment without opening the user manual - boy, are those days well in my past. I really think its time for Clint to have a workshop to teach us how to set up our radios. I got mine going for the Rescue Net tonight, (I have 1 whole channel programmed in) but just barely got on the air in time. I followed the manual "to the Letter" and after 10 or 20 tries I finally got it right. Then I would try to do something else and completely screw up what I had just done. After 10 or 20 more tries I would be back to where I was. Then I do something else that would screw it up again and so on and so on. >:(

I do want to thank you for your directions to HRO. They were remarkably easy to follow and we got a nice tour of "Beautiful downtown Burbank." ;D

I was all set to key the mike when you said any unchecked in folks but the battery went dead.  The built in battery doesn't last a long time it seems.  I listened to the net and you did a great job as Net Controller, John.  Very organized and informative.

Jim I've marked you down as an early checkin as you did call me on Table Mtn prior to the net starting.

Your battery should not be going dead so quick. I know you have it set on high power for the Table Mtn repeater & simplex but you haven't used it that much.

Did you get the AA battery pack?
If so try using that and see how long a set of batteries last.
