There are about 80 hams in Wrightwood. Every morning at 07:00 there is net on Table called the Grug Grabbers. About 4 people from Wrightwood. Now this may not indicate how many people really monitor Table, because the neet is so weird that most (all) of my students don't check into it either. I don't monitor Table because I can't hit from my office in San Dimas. You can't work TMO until your quite a ways out in the basin. It does cover the high desert, in fact much of the way to Las Vegas, quite well.

That's why I'm pushing 220. There is no good 2 meter path from Wrightwood to most of Southern California. There are three or four 220 machines or linked systems that do very well.

And I don't even monitor TMO at home because most of the traffic is just junk I don't want to hear. It's fairly busy machine with about 4 regular users who are on A LOT. BTW the Control op is Bill Woods W6FXJ

<guess we were replying at the same time  :)  had to reinsert this because I logged out while posting>

Percentages sound right for down here as well. Honestly speaking, can't imagine keeping up with a daily net unless it's in the work setting like down here with the defense contractors just so they know what hams are there each day in case of an incident.

Our weekly DCS net dwindled out because we aren't very active anymore and really didn't have anything to say, except "yeah, log me in for 1 hour". It's a real challenge keeping volunteers interested when there's nothing to do.

As for rag chewing, we used to have a great little commuter group on our repeater - very eclectic topics. Some ham stuff, but lots of everyday stuff, kids, remodeling, even recipes (and yes, that was also from some of the guys). It was a great way to keep up with friends, really (oh yeah, and make sure your equipment is in great working order ;)  Now the last couple of years our commuting times have changed so we don't talk, and honestly, don't keep up very well - last thing I think about when I get home is calling folks for no reason. Too bad we lost the group, because it was what used to call the equivalent of Tim Taylor & Wilson talking over the fence on Home Improvement.

Seems like 2m has it's limits anymore as was mentioned above in this thread. A little coincidence in that the 147.57 frequency was what was used in El Segundo where I grew up since Marconi was a  boy, but was pretty unusable by the late 1990s due to either interference from Mexico or (and what really griped me) other hams who would not let go of their rag chewing on the frequency for our weekly DCS drill . This was pretty much the inspiration for going after a 440 freq when that band was reorganized. Guess these rag chewers didn't read the part about why amateurs get any band width at all by the FCC, but then I'm a child of the Kennedy generation and think you should volunteer to do something, no matter how small.

Too bad you don't use 440 up there, we really like it down here and so are 440 rich equipment-wise. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky at the W6TRW raffle next weekend   :2thumbsup:

Hope everyone had a nice weekend,
Kerin

OK, I admit it. I've lost track of what band we should be on tonight. So it's going to be 220.

Net tonight at 19:00 on 222.12 (100.0)

Will not be in town tonight so we'll miss the action.

My guess at the weekly quiz is "none of the above"  ;)
KG6ZEQ guess is "C" (charlie out)

Thanks to those who checked in to the net last night, both on time, :2thumbsup: and after a reminder phone call. :-\

Next week we will be on 2 meters.
147.57o simplex / PL of 100.0

Maybe we can have check ins from our three newly transplanted hams? :welcomehere:

I feel so dirty, and so ashamed.. I don't have 220, 440, or any of those fancy schmancy bands. All I have is 2M. Will ya'll still talk to me? ;)

Seirously, what day/time/freq are your 2M nets?

For some reason, I had made a note to myself that something took place Wed evenings at 1900L, 145.62, but it was silent the last few times I looked there.

The net is Thursday at 19:00. When I don't forget!
We alternate between 2 meters 147.57 simplex PL 100.00
and 1.25 meters 222.12 simplex PL 100.00
So when we are on 2 meters we love to talk to you. I anticipate using 220 for disaster communications here so you might look into a  new toy on that band.

Just check this forum for which band we are going to be on. With the new class starting I will be more diligent about updates here.

So the 2M net, is "every other week" then? (Tonight... and two weeks from tonight?)

Gee, I suppose there could be a nice tri-bander in my future.

No net tonight. One of us is out of town and I need to work on prep for class. Next week we will be back on two meters.
