not only did it fly over, it was VERY low! I was on hwy 2 and I felt like I could reach out and touch it! Being sooo low, I am very curious as to where it may have been headed. It looked like a transport to me very much like the ones in Moreno Valley.

Okay I checked March's wiki and it was smaller than the transports they have based there. Maybe about the size of a dc10.

That's the second time I've seen a large plane do that in that area. It was flying low enough to go in and make a drop. It tipped it's wing over West Cajon Valley. No appaerent fire this time or last.

That big plane was an awesome sight to behold. Looked like the folks along the ridge at the top of Sand Canyon Road could see the color of the pilot's eyes as he flew over their roof tops. LOL.

Glad there's no emergency in the area! :2thumbsup:

I saw it out my window.  I was on the phone and commented that I'd never seen a plane by looking down from my house before.

Jet or prop? C-130s etc travel thru this area frequently, since there is a military training route that passes jsut north of WW, and eastward.

I also saw it from pinon hills, it was jet powered no prop. I believe it was military, I have spent some summers at Fox air tanker base it was not a common air tanker. It was dark in color, jet powered and had wing tips. And yes it was really low and cool to see. Buddy

yep, definitely a jet, I looked up some common military transport planes and, although I cant be sure, I think it only had one engine under each wing, anyone else notice? The one engine is what made me think DC10.

Any updates on the laptop robbery?  The story sounded a little sketchy, but if the crime did happen, I hope the police were able to catch them.  Anyone hear?

Mmm....okay now you guys have me curious.

A DC-10 off the line does not have winglets. So that would make it a modified DC-10. Winglets are more typically added on to commercial aircraft but the military has been adding them more and more . But was it a DC-10? A DC-10 is a three engine aircraft. One engine nacelle under each wing and the third through the base of the tail.

Did it have that?

And was the rear portion of the underside of fuselage swept up towards the tail? Loading ramp.

Try this on for size and see if it fits

It wasn't that fancy or modern, desert5150.  I think it was an older military craft. It was medium to dark gray and had an engine under each wing.  No insignia's. Sort of like a MD-80. It was surprisingly quiet for such a behemoth plane although I could hear the whine of it's engines.  Next time I'll try to snap a photo.

It was a C-117 Globemaster.  One of several mega transports that has short field capability.  They practise touch and goes at Victorville Airport all the time and use the military low level flight corridor that still exist through the Wrightwood area.  Frequent visitors to the area.

Man, that is the ones based at March but I really didn't think it was that big. I was positive it only had one engine under each wing. Ehh, I have been wrong before and I am sure it will happen again probably sooner than later.

Blame it on the angle you saw it from.  ;)
