Holy cow, Wildman!!!  Did you manipulate the colors somehow before posting these pics?  Those look waaaayy too vivid to be real, but I know with hummers it has a lot to do with how the sun is shining on them.  Good job!!!

That's incredible!...How far were you from this bird...You were using your 100-400...I hope you don't mind that I copied the picture for use as a background...Best wishes.....

Yes, I was using the stabilized 100-400 with flash.  I was about 8-10 feet away when he sat down and looked at me.  I'll email you a higher resolution version.

Thanks!!! Does it sound plausible that some of the original conceptions of fairies related to humming birds?  Who knows?  I wonder what think of us?....We must be giants!  Best wishes..

Very well could be.  I know that I am fascinated by the detail one can see with the telephoto lens versus what you see with the naked eye.  Makes me want to get a Ghilly suit and sneak up on one with a Macro closeup lens.

Great shot Wildman! Speaking of detail, have you blown up the picture to see what kind of detail you can see in the hummer's eye?

Got very lucky today at work.  Out on a break with my cam and this guy flew across the sky.  He landed on a palm tree.  Had to take about 100 shots with him moving from tree to pole to tree until he let me capture this shot...  It looks a tad unreal as I zoomed in so much the digital zoom took over but WOW!!!

Very nice!  The raptors have such a piercing look to them.  I keep waiting for ours to get close enough again.  The hawks will be be migrating through in the Spring and really show up in numbers.

Thanks Steve.  I pestered him for about 30 min with him moving from light post to tree to light post...  I did talk to him rather nicely and told him thank you for being patient with me.  :)  I got a few good shots and then I told him thanks and left.  I did keep myself next to a car so if I had to duck I could...  I few of the shots I got his eyes were giving me some pretty dirty looks.  LOL

Wildman,

I really like those last few pics of that hummer! Do you know at all what kind of hummer that was? I'm very curious.  :2thumbsup:
