If it was a narrow snake with two yellow stripes that ran the length and that moved fairly quick....might have been the common garter snake.  They live around here and love bugs and very small rodents.

Last year walking the dogs up on Finch I came across a dead Mountain King Snake. I was soooo bummed it was dead. Mtn. Kings are my favorite snake.

The king snakes are so beautiful. Last year I saw one in our yard and I was so glad it was around. I wish no ill will to our rattlesnakes--just don't want to run into one unexpectedly as I did the summer before last.

well gang.... I had another baby rattle snake today in my yard.  I read in a catalog there is a natural power available "Snake Away" that I guess you put up and around your house - Does anyone know if this works???

Is there anyone I can call to to remove/relocate these snakes?  I am freaking out about now!  4 in a less than a week is too much for me to handle!!!!!

Thanks!

Good luck with animal control. Our neighbor (when we lived in Pinon Hills) had a rattlesnake in her house. Animal Control never showed up, after repeated calls. The fire department eventually helped out.

Maybe animal control is just understaffed, but it was very frustrating.

I would advise you buy a snake stick.  I bought mine from a place in Texas over the Internet.  It's a long stick with a clamp on the bottom.  It allows you to safely pick up and either relocate a rattler to an unpopulated area, or hold it securely while you kill it.  Here's a similar one to the one I have:

You  might also think about putting out some sticky snake traps. They are the larger ones used for mice and rats.   They aren't pretty because they snake is alive but stuck, but with four snakes in your yard, I think you have a nest somewhere.

last year I called Animal Control and they told me to watch the snake till they got to my house....well.....1 hour of watching this snake no one showed so I called them....their reply "sorry don't know when we can come" and they never did!

Is it ok to call the fire dept on such an issue???

Good advice.
Snake sticks work well. I used them a lot in a previous job to relocate snakes. (Kept the snakes in an aquarium until the temperature cooled off and then drove the snakes to a good area & released them.)
A rake will also work for picking them up. You pick them up between the tines, as close to the middle of their bodies as you can.

Go to post number 1 on this thread.  The Fire Department will come out and deal with the snake.  They are equipped with professional snake grabbers.  The outcome for the snake will depend where you live and how close your neighbors are....pets....other kids, etc.   They traditionally will not relocate snakes using barrels, tubs, bags, etc.  Each circumstance is unique.

Beware!!
Two snake encounters occurred yesterday that I know about.

A dog was bitten by a rattler on the upper Heath Canyon levee road, behind the Church Camp. Outcome unknown at this time and I believe it may have been a forum members dog.

Wildman had his 2nd close call with a rattler near his front porch in Horse Canyon on Saturday. This time the rattler struck his leg.
I'll let him finish telling this unbelievable story.
